To further strengthen our Leadership team in our Geotechnical discipline, we are looking for a Technical Director to join us. Working on a variety of UK infrastructure projects, you’ll take responsibility for technical deliverables, quality assurance, project leadership and line management.
Your key responsibilities will be:
1. Providing technical leadership across a range of current projects assigned to you, and internal expertise to others as required
2. Technical custodianship of one or more geotechnical engineering competencies, developing and ensuring consistent application of best practice across projects and directing on technical innovations
3. Mentoring and developing engineering staff in your areas of expertise, including developing and delivering training, undertaking knowledge-sharing activities and supporting succession planning
4. Promoting our position as an established name within your area through involvement in relevant industry bodies, technical publication, and facilitating the same in others
5. Technical approval of designs, check or assessment deliverables on your projects in accordance with internal management systems
6. Supporting pursuit of relevant business development opportunities and input into bids and tenders as required

On top of that, you’ll have:
1. Achieved Chartered Engineer status, with CGeol or CEng (or equivalent)
2. A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering;
3. Ideally an MSc in either Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering (with significant Geotechnical ability and experience)
4. Proven experience in a similar role with technical, commercial and business development and line management responsibilities, ideally working in the rail and highways environments.
5. Expertise in a design environment working on major or complex geotechnical projects in the UK or internationally at a senior/leadership level
6. Knowledge of the application of ground engineering standards particularly EC7 Geotechnical Design.
7. High level knowledge of and experience in the use of industrial sector codes for highways, rail, energy, and water sectors.
8. A good understanding of construction and site processes, particularly earth moving and construction of earth structures; materials engineering; foundations for a wide range of structures; piling construction methods and types; highway pavements; rail track beds; hard standing; and ground improvement methods.
9. Significant experience guiding project teams and handling the technical delivery of projects, either as client's or contractor's designer
