The Role
We’re now looking for a skilled Installation and Maintenance Technician to join our team in Brighton. This position will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless deployment and upkeep of EMSOL’s air quality sensors and monitoring systems.
This position requires a hands-on engineering (hardware installation, electrical installation etc) professional who can collaborate closely with the Production Manager to assemble and refurbish our self-manufactured air quality sensors and conduct on-site installations and repairs of our sensors and video capture platform. It will require regular onsite travel, mostly national, but some international travel will be required as we are expanding. You MUST have excellent communications skills as you will be client facing at times.
You will have at least 2+ years of experience in hardware installation, maintenance, or a related technical field and a related qualification such as Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation, NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services, AM2 Assessment or relevant qualifications in Higher National Certificates (HNCs), Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) or a foundation degree/BTEC National Diploma.
It’s essential that you’re comfortable working in a small, agile, growing business, where priorities will change quickly. You will also display the technical acumen to support both in-house production and field operations.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Preparation & Testing
* Assemble our air quality sensors and video capture equipment
* Pre-prepare and conduct soak tests on all sensor deployments prior to installation to ensure functionality and reliability.
* Maintain and clean all tools and equipment used during installations.
* Manage the lab (workshop) storage, ensuring an organised, safe, and well-labelled environment.
* Ensure the asset register is accurate, recording new stock wastage and conducting periodic inventory stock checks in collaboration with the finance team.
On-Site Installation & Commissioning
* Install sensor equipment at customer sites, ensuring adherence to health and safety legislation/best practices, company standards and protocols.
* Coordinate with site owners and teams to facilitate and sign off on installation work.
* Test and commission all site deployments, ensuring operational systems meet client specifications.
* Conduct site surveys and prepare installation reports as required by other internal teams.
Maintenance & Technical Support
* Monitor all site deployments remotely to ensure equipment is functioning correctly, documenting any causes of failure.
* Diagnose and resolve issues proactively, determining when on-site visits are necessary.
* Maintain, repair, and refurbish company sensors and hardware returned or recovered from sites.
* Manage warranty processes for all assets, coordinating returns and repairs with third-party suppliers.
Inventory & Logistics Management
* Replenish consumables by ordering directly or advising the Production Manager as needed.
* Maintain stock levels and spares to meet customer deployment plans.
* Coordinate hardware shipping to customers or suppliers, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
Health & Safety Compliance
* Assist with installation paperwork, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety guidelines during lab activities and customer installations.
Role Requirements
As well as the experience and qualifications mentioned above, this role will suit someone with a background in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems, CCTV, television aerials, alarms, or computer networks. You will also have the following;
* Attention to Detail: Meticulousness in equipment preparation, testing, and documentation to ensure quality and reliability.
* Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of electrical equipment, installation procedures, and maintenance practices. You do not need experience in air quality sensors as we can provide this.

* Organisational Skills: Capable of managing inventory, scheduling site visits, and maintaining accurate records.
* Safety Awareness: Committed to adhering to Health & Safety regulations.
* Agility, flexibility and a Problem Solving approach. We’re a small business where client priorities will change quickly, and it’s essential that you can adapt to change and fix client issues quickly.
