The Estates team has over 250 colleagues, working across all of our sites on everything from the refurbishment of buildings to catering.
The Cleaning team is responsible for the ongoing cleanliness of the university, working in conjunction with all other departments across the Estate.
You will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the building, ensuring a welcoming and secure environment for staff, students, and visitors.
This role involves regular engagement with staff and students, providing excellent service while completing daily tasks. You will be able to work both independently and as part of a wider team, consistently delivering high standards of cleanliness and safety.
A proactive attitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to creating a positive campus experience are essential for success in this position.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual who can demonstrate strong teamwork skills while also being capable of working independently to high standards. The ideal candidate will bring a keen attention to detail, ensuring tasks are completed thoroughly and accurately.
A commitment to adhering to health and safety legislation is essential, with a focus on maintaining a safe environment for all. You will also be able to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple responsibilities with efficiency and professionalism.
This role requires reliability, adaptability, and a positive approach to contributing to a well-maintained and secure space.
Key Responsibilities
* Empty waste bins or similar receptacles and remove rubbish to appropriate refuse area
* Sweep floors with brushes or mop sweepers
* Mop with wet or damp mops
* Vacuum carpeted areas and spot clean carpets
* Strip, seal, and polish floors
* Use electrically powered scrubbing and polishing machines, wet pick-up machines, and carpet cleaning machines after adequate training
* Dust wipe, wash, or polish as necessary – furniture, ledges, blackboards and whiteboards, windowsills, external surfaces of cupboards, shelves and fitments
* Replenish consumable items (soap, toilet paper, paper towels)
* Clean toilets, urinals, hand basins, sinks, showers, and baths
* Undertake wall washing, partition glass and inside windowpane cleaning when required
* Use such chemical agents as directed by the Cleaning Manager/Cleaning Supervisor, after adequate training has been given
* Clean work surfaces and exterior of kitchen equipment in Kitchens
* Carry out other duties as may from time to time be required as appropriate to the post
* Comply with the requirements of Health and Safety, other relevant legislation, and University documentation
* Understand and comply with the University’s Equal Opportunities Policy
* Experience of working without direct supervision

Qualifications
* NVQ Level 1 in Cleaning (or equivalent qualification) or recent and substantial comparable work experience
Experience
* Experience of working with heavy-duty industrial cleaning equipment
