Overview: This role represents the first level of managerial responsibility, undertaken in consultation with the Director/Technical Director for teams/offices engaged in sustainability design and consultancy work. It often includes additional administrative responsibility for design in branches of sustainability beyond ones specialisation. Responsibilities: - Lead design programs, which typically involve: - Budgetary control of projects - Conceptual engineering - Coordination of multiple projects - Supervising preparation and evaluating completed designs, layouts, specifications, cost estimates, contract documents, reports, proposals, and supporting information to ensure conformity with prescribed functional and performance requirements or specifications - Conducting detailed design work or providing consultancy advice - Liaise with Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Clients, other professionals, Consultants, Construction Engineers, Manufacturers, Suppliers, Contractors, or Installers to ensure accurate design and successful implementation of projects. - Provide on-site advice or supervision during the construction or installation phase of projects. - Work within agreed financial budgets and programs, plan current design projects, and participate in long-term planning of future design work. This requires both originality and ingenuity to devise practical and economical solutions to problems and initiate original work by design staff, potentially leading to technical or management advice offered across Our Clients business. - Maintain working-level contacts both inside and outside the firm to generate new business opportunities and secure workload. Regularly liaise with senior colleagues and attend Group coordination meetings. Associate Role Summary: 1. Support a key section, discipline, or company initiative. 2. Contribute to a Business Plan for their team/initiative. 3. Deliver aspects of the Business Plan as directed by their Technical Director/Director, which may include: - Budget management - Securing workload/Business development - Financial performance - Resourcing/project delivery - Technical quality and regular reviews - Staff welfare and development - Risk management - Problem-solving - Brand awareness/marketing - Managing and acting on Client feedback 4. Coordinate a technical development, market initiative, or support function across the group, with responsibility to their Technical Director/Director. 5. Maintain the highest levels of quality. 6. Demonstrate the values and behaviours of Our Client and encourage others to do the same. Decisions and Recommendations: - Decides on: - Effective implementation of design programs - Project budgets - Site suitability or project feasibilities - Performance or functional requirements of work or equipment to be designed - Optimum design methods and conceptual engineering - Work programs and time schedules - Priorities and delegation of work - Solutions to complex technical problems - Choice of suppliers and contractors as appropriate - Evaluation of designs, reports, proposals, and supporting calculations and specifications - Support and coordinate the work of their team within the overall group on behalf of their Technical Director/Director. - Review policy and financial controls in liaison with their Technical Director/Director. Business Development: - Consistently liaise with Clients and other industry professionals to generate good working relationships and high levels of Client satisfaction. - Maintain excellent client and design team relationships through proactive communication to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business. - Identify and pursue new business opportunities with existing and new clients. Develop business relationships to secure additional work and increase team revenue, delivering revenue targets for the development team.
