Purpose of the role:
Working within a team of Master Mariners, Naval Architects, and Marine Engineers, the role is a senior position to be based in our London office and will involve a balance between office-based work and site and offshore attendances. Vessel attendances will be mainly in the UK, Europe, and occasionally worldwide. The role offers a challenging and varied workload including working with our naval architects and structural and marine engineers in providing marine warranty surveying, marine assurance, vessel inspection, rig moving, and other marine advisory services. The position will require travel, sometimes at short notice, to attend surveys, inspections, and client meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
In consultation with the UK Marine Lead:
Delivery of Marine Service
* Marine support to clients and internal staff members in all areas of marine operations
* The review of technical reports, procedures, and marine studies
* Attendance offshore as marine warranty surveyor during offshore projects
* Attendance on site and the provision of approval for towage, load-out, and transportation activities
* Acting as client representative during offshore installation and decommissioning works
* Risk analysis both quantitative and qualitative for offshore operations
* The survey of vessels including OVID, eCMID, and MWS suitability inspections
* Witness DP trials, produce DP trial reports, and FMEA analysis
* The provision of marine technical advice to clients and staff engineers, naval architects, and non-mariners
* Contribute to initiatives to raise GM’s external profile
* Support the UK Marine Lead in delivering UK MS Strategy and undertake additional projects
* Ability to project manage marine service projects which involves client meetings, arranging personnel, managing budgets, and time sheets
* On occasion, support other mariners by monitoring their project work during leave periods
* Seek and record feedback and opportunities for improvement in safety from onboard time and contribute to Monthly safety bulletins
* Participate in the development and delivery of training and be proactive in sharing knowledge
Specific Skills, Knowledge and Experience required:
* To be a certified senior officer, either Master Mariner or Chief Engineer
* Sea-going experience as Master, Chief Officer, or Chief Engineer in the offshore oil, gas, and/or renewable energy industries, ideally with sea-going experience on DP vessels
* Experience in heavy lift, DP, anchor handling, offshore construction, offshore decommissioning, rigid and flexible lay, rig moving, towage, or supply operations
* Strong knowledge of Marine Warranty operations from a practical vessel perspective and/or through office-based MWS involvement. Up to date knowledge of regulatory marine requirements, industry standards, practices, guidelines, and methodologies
* Capable of producing high-quality documentation in the form of technical reports
* Excellent communication and client-facing skills
* Right to live and work in the United Kingdom
* Valid UK ENG1 and BOSIET

* Uses industry knowledge and experience and considers the wider effects when determining the solutions to problems
* Effectively manages resources and workload using sound project management principles
