Monitor and audit quality clinicalpractice, including the delivery of audit and direct observation of peers.
Look for opportunities for innovationand service improvements to improve patient care and standards of patient safety.
Foster a learning environment whereall staff evaluate the quality of patient care, feel able to raise concerns,and where learning is shared.

JobSummary
Carry out medical assessment face to face orremote for abortion provision, contraceptive advice and provision inclusive ofLARCS. Also provide assessment for post abortion problems.
Work with the pre-operative team (consisting ofnurses and midwives) to provide advice and solutions when they alert you to medicalor other conditions which may affect the management of patients.
Advise patientsof complication rates and potential risks associated with treatments asrequired.
Ensure patientsare fully aware of all important issues relating to treatment and aftercare.
For patientsbelow the age of 16: Ensure the patient has sufficient understanding andintelligence to give valid informed consent.
Ensurethat a record of pre- treatment assessment, operation record, recovery notesand any post treatment assessment and care is made in the patient notes. Complete statutory documentation.
Assesspatients fitness to undergo safe abortion. Carryout abortion by the appropriate method to evacuate the products of conception in accordance with NUPAS policies and procedures.
Initiateappropriate referral measures if there is any concern that the patient may beat risk.
Bepresent in the operating theatre or treatment room throughout each procedureand remain on site until all patientshave been assessed fit for discharge from recovery or passed to the care ofanother on-site doctor.
Providesupport, advice and guidance to the nursing, midwifery and other staff in themanagement of unexpected outcomes.
Discusscontraception options and fit long-acting reversible contraception as necessary,prescribe other methods.

Carry out termination of pregnancy and related procedures by the appropriate methods in accordance NUPAS Guidelines, Policies and Procedures.
Ensure that an accurate, contemporaneous and legible of the procedure is made in the patient notes.
Maintain appropriate standard of care and availability of expertise in event of an unexpected outcome.
Prescribe post-operative pain relief and other medications/fluids as required and in collaboration with the anaesthetist where appropriate.
Respond to requests for review of patients by nursing and midwifery staff in line with timings laid out in the MEWS Escalation Chart.
Complete HSA4 forms in the timeframes required by legislation.
Effective pain management and support recovery staff.
Identify the early onset of potential problems and take immediate appropriate action.
Safeguard patient health and safety.
Governance and Risk Management
Ensure termination services meet thehighest standards of clinical excellence, and that risks are identified andappropriately managed.
Report and address any complaints,adverse events or other issues and ensure any learning is shared across theorganisation.
Develop and maintain safe systems ofwork.
GMCregistration Obligations.
Update knowledge and skills through CPD and effective annualappraisal.
Comply with GMC code of conduct and requirements of professionalregistration with GMC at all times.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
1. At least three years experience in gynaecology or reproductive and sexual health care.
2. Experience of independent practice for abortion procedures relevant to the post applied for, or willingness to be trained in-house.
3. Has been providing surgical abortions for the last 12 months.
Desirable
4. Experience in Ultrasound scan guided Feticide
5. Experience in inserting osmotic cervical dilators
6. Experience of intrauterine contraception insertion
7. Experience of contraceptive implant insertion

8. Supports a clients reproductive choices & must have no conscientious objection to abortion care.
9. A self-motivated team player who is comfortable working alone and as part of a wider team.
10. Strategic and innovative outlook.
11. Willingness to travel Nationally between sites.
Qualifications
Essential
12. GMC full registration with no restrictions to work in UK
13. Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG)
14. On the UK Specialist Register
Desirable
15. Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG)
16. Holds Letter of Competence in Intra uterine coils (LOC-FSRH)
17. Holds Letter of Competence in Subdermal implants (LOC SDI- FSRH)
18. Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare
19. Member of a Royal College or Faculty.
20. FSRH or RCOG abortion skills modules (ACSM/ ASM)
