Job Overview
The Urology Department at Frimley Park consists of eight full-time consultant surgeons, seven middle-grade doctors, three senior house officers (including this post) plus a Foundation Year 1 doctor and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. The department offers a wealth of learning opportunities covering all the major sub-specialties within Urology. Incorporated within the department at Frimley Park is the Frimley Renal Cancer Centre (FRCC) delivering tertiary specialist renal cancer surgery, including performing both Da Vinci and Versius robotic-assisted surgery. Frimley Park is also a recognised centre of innovation in technology relating to the surgical management of BPH, a tertiary referral centre for reconstructive urological surgery and runs a high-volume stone service, with a fixed site Lithotriptor at Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot. Other services include Koelis fusion targeted biopsies of the prostate and flexi TULA in the management of bladder cancer, as well as tertiary referral service for SYNERGO based at Heatherwood Hospital. Paediatric urology is delivered on site, working with the team from Southampton and specialist female and functional urology is delivered in a close working partnership with uro-gynaecology.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will carry the Urology 007 bleep when on call. This will involve being the first point of call for GPs and other teams within the hospital wanting urological advice. You will work closely with other junior doctors, a registrar of the week and Consultant on call. You must maintain liaison with colleagues who are on duty immediately before and after you to ensure adequate communication and continuity of patient care. When not on call during the working week, you will be free to attend educational activities such as outpatient clinics, theatre and diagnostic lists according to your learning needs. We recommend that the post holder arrange an initial meeting with their Educational Supervisor within a few weeks of taking up the post to identify their educational needs.

The department of Urology is a member of the Surgical Directorate, well known in the region for providing excellent patient care as well as exceptional training for the specialist registrars and junior doctors. The Department of Urology enjoys close links with The Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH), with a weekly joint Specialist MDT for prostatic, bladder and penile cancers. There is a Specialist Renal MDT hosted by Frimley Park Hospital.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Elective activity takes place at Frimley Park Hospital. This is all done in a supervised environment with face-to-face, telephone clinics and diagnostic procedures. There are weekly departmental MDT and x-ray meetings to discuss complex cases. Weekly departmental teaching is an opportunity to improve knowledge and work towards ST3 applications or FRCS Urol.
