The Band 2 Maternity Care Assistant uses general skills to enhance the service offered to service users and their families across a range of aspects of maternity service deliverywhilst having direct supervision from relevant professionals.
Maternity Care Assistants work alongside registered practitioners and other members of the maternity care team who provide direct delivery of care to service users and their families accessing hospital-based services.

Band 2 Maternity Care Assistants may undertake basic care tasks, as part of routine care for service users and their babies, and for which they have been appropriately trained. where they do so, they will follow planned care programmes whilst having direct supervision from relevant professionals.
The band 2 Maternity Care Assistant (MCA) works as part of the wider multidisciplinary team carrying out a range of tasks that focus on housekeeping, administration and the personal care of the service users and babies. They will work between intrapartum and inpatient settings under the direct supervision of a midwife. They will support a friendly, nurturing and welcoming environment for service users, and their families. Within all areas they will contribute the the provision of birthing person centred, personalised care. This will include promoting continuity of care
The MCA will assist in the assessment of health care needs, undertake roles and responsibilities that have been delegated by the registered midwife.
