The Role As a Lead Mechanical Engineer at VPI, you will be responsible for the mechanical integrity, maintenance, and performance of designated power stations, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation. You will provide technical leadership, oversee major overhauls and contracts, and ensure compliance with industry regulations. Collaborating with operations, maintenance teams, and external suppliers, you will drive continuous improvement, manage engineering risks, and support long-term asset strategies. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and expertise in mechanical engineering within a CCGT or power generation environment. Key Responsibilities Oversee the mechanical integrity of designated plant and equipment. Provide technical leadership and support for planned and reactive maintenance. Ensure compliance with all mechanical statutory requirements. Lead major projects, including tendering and contract management. Drive continuous improvement in engineering procedures, risk management, and asset reliability. Support long-term service agreements and liaise with suppliers, contractors, and OEMs. Management of designated plant and equipment within the VPI CCGT sites, which will include travel to Rye House, Shoreham & Blackburn Power Stations (you may want to take this out post call) What we are looking for 5 years' experience in Mechanical Engineering (preferably in CCGT power generation). Strong knowledge of health & safety regulations, asset management, and contract management. Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience)in an engineering discipline Excellent leadership and people management skills. NEBOSH or IOSH certification (desirable). A problem-solver with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities. Valid UK Driving Licence. Why Join VPI?
