Full job description
We are looking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemical Biology to join the Aye laboratory based at the Oxford Department of Chemistry. The Aye laboratory is a multidisciplinary laboratory focusing on reactive small-molecule metabolite signalling as it pertains to intra- and intercellular communication and drug discovery. We have pioneered numerous novel and multi-award-winning chemical biology concepts and techniques that have been applied to important biological questions.
This project and the role will involve combining the use of cultured cells and vertebrate animals, in particular, zebrafish larvae to understand our newly uncovered reactive metabolite signalling pathways of importance in cell-type-specific apoptosis. The researcher will learn to apply our in-house-engineered REX technologies in unison with state-of-the-art genetics, molecular and cell biology, and model organism research tools and concepts to achieve the project goals.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D., or be close to completion, in chemistry, chemical & engineering biology, or a related area. We welcome all interested aspiring interdisciplinary researchers with diverse backgrounds. They will have expertise in interdisciplinary research, including small-molecule chemistry, biochemistry, cell-based, and model organism studies, or be willing to learn closely from experienced members and collaborators.
We offer a laboratory that has won numerous awards lying at a nexus between numerous fields interfacing with chemistry. The successful candidate will enjoy unique state-of-the-art instrumentation, a team-playing environment where they can learn and develop, and projects that are aiming to make real-world impact. The facilities and infrastructure at Oxford are also fantastic. More information about our research group, including other active research themes, can be found at our website.
This position is available immediately. Applications for this vacancy are to be made online using the link below and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. Further details can be found in the attached job description.
Certificates, references and research papers should not be provided at this stage.
The closing date is midday on 15th November 2024. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
The University of Oxford and The Department of Chemistry are Silver Athena SWAN holders. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
