Head & Neck division has an exciting opportunity to join the Head and Neck Oncology CNS team. The role includes supporting patients with Head and Neck (ENT & Maxillofacial) and Thyroid cancer from diagnosis, through treatment and follow up or palliative / end of life care.

The post holder will work alongside senior Head & Neck CNS and an oncology support worker.

Main duties of the job
1. To provide specialist nursing care in maintaining and developing a quality service for H&N and Thyroid cancer patients.
2. To take the key worker responsibility for a caseload of patients requiring specialist nursing/ oncology care.
3. To provide specialist training as required to support junior staff, ensuring the provision of high quality care in the most efficient and safe manner in accordance with Directorate and Hospital policies and procedures.
4. To support band 7 CNS in setting up nurse led clinics and in service improvement and in the smooth running of the service.
5. To support patients and families affected by H&N Cancer.
6. To work closely with other health care providers including wider oncology team, District Nurses, GPs, Palliative team.
7. Must have flexibility to travel between City and QMC campus to support patients as required.
8. Flexibility and willingness to undertake home visits if needed.
9. To take part/ support in Team's Annual reviews as per Trust policy.
10. To undertake necessary courses or attend study days relevant to the role.

Training & Qualification
Essential
* Current registration with NMC.
* Relevant experience.
* Willingness to undertake job specific training at diploma / degree level.
Desirable
* Diploma or Degree in Nursing sciences.
Experience

* Experience in using relevant hospital IT systems.
* Can demonstrate professional autonomy and effective decision making skills when managing caseload.
* Experience in supervision of registered, non-registered staff and students.
Desirable
* Experience in providing staff with feedback on their individual performance and conducting appraisals.

* Ability to work within a MDT; and on own initiative including the sharing of complex / sensitive information.
