The Operational Lead role is an exciting new role within the OSD (Oral & Solid Dose) manufacturing stream at GSK’s Manufacturing Site at Ware.
The role delivers effective day to day and medium term (4-24 months) running of OSD operations, managing stream resources to ensure appropriate alignment between commercial supply, NPI (New Production Introduction) projects and R&D trials, and the local delivery/action plans. This role also plays a pivotal role in the 4-24 month demand and capacity management for all types of manufacturing and packing activities.
You will manage a team of up to 5 staff (including all aspects of people management including check-ins with direct reports, development and application of all relevant people policies as required). You will also act as deputy to the Operations Manager and cover for Production Team Leaders (PTL) as needed (including managing escalations from PTLs relating to unit operations and prioritisation – act as decision maker).
Key Responsibilities (include..,):
* Managing NPI campaign readiness including: all deliverables associated with safety and GMP; user instructions and training; resource management and associated communications to the stream. Ensuring that lessons learnt from each NPI campaign/project/event are used effectively to continuously improve (managing local improvement action plans).
* Providing all Production inputs to Site Impact Assessments including capability and capacity evaluation; recommendations for business process redesign; manage local delivery/action plans.
* Involvement in regular benchmarking between sites, ensuring inter-site learnings are translated to best practice in Ware OSD value stream. Identify and implement operational improvements across that deliver advantage for the Value Stream, aligned to site priorities.
* Managing investigations, developing CAPA and owning actions associated with Safety, Quality or staff non-compliance. Partnering with R&D and cross functional GSC teams to continuously develop and deploy best fit ‘OnePharma’ solutions to accelerate NPI delivery.
* Act as the Production Customer representative for project activity delivered within the area of responsibility, providing user requirements, managing production deliverables, and liaising directly with project managers to deliver ongoing unit operation and process development for non-industrialised manufacturing assets within Ware OSD value stream.
* Owner of inspection readiness process for the area, including: managing during audits and inspections (and responses to audits), as well as ensuring OSD facilities and processes are inspection ready every day.
* Ensure the production aspects of Supply Chain Planning processes are in place, in use and effective
* Coach team members at all levels of the Value Stream to deliver excellence and continuous improvement through the GPS, as well as ensure compliance and governance processes are robust and supported.
About You:
As this role is multi-faceted and includes a high-level of responsibility, you must be a flexible and participative in your management style. You will empower the team by involving them in goal setting, performance evaluation and improvement processes. You will be a self-motivated person who has experience of working in a complex manufacturing site (ideally from within a highly regulated-industry). You will be able to demonstrate the ability and the willingness to step up or down as required to provide day-to-day cover and support to your team (including your peer-group and your line-manager as required). Experience in managing deviations and compliance would also be highly advantageous.
About Ware Manufacturing Site:
We are co-located with our R&D colleagues and recently opened a new, state-of-the-art oral solid dose facility at Ware. At this location our scientists, technicians and engineers (from R&D and Global Supply Chain – GSC) work collaboratively together (using the latest technologies) to rapidly knowledge transfer and deliver GSK’s most innovative, medicines faster and more efficiently. On site we produce over 60 million respiratory inhalers each year with growing demand in future years. The site also processes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) for use both on site and other manufacturing sites in our network.

Basic Qualifications:
* Education: A-level (A-C grades) or equivalent
* Relevant experience (eg; hands-on experience in a highly-regulated GMP manufacturing environment).
Preferred Qualifications:
* Education: Relevant Diploma or Degree (in Science, Technical or Engineering subject)
* Operational management experience (hands-on processing experience in GMP Pharmaceutical Manufacturing environment)
