Senior External Communications Manager – Sustainability, People and Culture
Angel Court EC2R 7HJ – hybrid 2 – 3 days per week in the office
Permanent
Full time 35 hours per week
Salary £66500 - £75000 depending on experience + bonus + £6K car allowance

Group Brand and External Communications is a global function of Bupa Group which is responsible for external-facing communications, brand building and promotion, digital and social media content as well as reputation management.
The role
You’ll join the Group External Communications team and be welcomed as a key contributor to the existing team.
A passionate and creative communicator, you’ll be responsible for developing and shaping our proactive external communications with a specific focus on our Sustainability strategy and our progressive People and Culture agenda.
Bupa has an increasing role to play in raising awareness of the intersection between climate change, nature and human health. Focus areas for communication will include our work to reduce our own carbon emissions as well as research, partnerships and innovation in order to accelerate sustainable healthcare solutions.
You’ll work in partnership with the wider Brand and Digital team and build strong relationships with other internal stakeholders including the Group Sustainability team, the Group People team, and the Group Clinical team.
How you’ll be helping us make health happen
* Leading on the external communications at Group level of all aspects of Bupa’s Sustainability strategy, including communicating our initiatives and partnerships to reduce our carbon emissions, activities to help accelerate our sustainability strategy and our commitments to nature and regeneration.
* Leading on the external communications at Group level of all aspects of Bupa’s People and Culture strategy, communicating our initiatives and partnerships focused on Wellbeing, Diversity and Inclusion and colleague engagement.
* Working closely with external communications colleagues to share ideas and seek input.
* Bringing your media contacts from previous experiences to the role and growing the relationships that already exist with key target media platforms and channels to continue the momentum and coverage that was initiated in 2023.
* Building trusted relationships with internal stakeholders and teams.
* Securing global media opportunities, writing content for external communications, owning key messaging and approvals, presentations, video scripts and blogs.
* Maintaining the continuous accuracy of our sustainability narrative, proof points and case studies to demonstrate our progress.
* Working with subject matter experts to ensure timely and accurate presentation of information. Preparing speakers for each opportunity and working with external agencies.
* Helping the content team to deliver video, social media and other Sustainability, People/Culture content through our owned social channels and www.bupa.com.
* Owning the accuracy and presentation of Sustainability and People/Culture content on the website in a progressive and engaging way.
* Maintaining our position statements and messaging across the full range of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues, including people-related issues.
* Advising on the best way to communicate external data for ESG reporting or disclosure purposes.
You
* Recognised and demonstrable excellence in external communications especially around sustainability / ESG and business writing and content production, gained either in-house or in an agency.
* Brilliant external communications experience across multiple channels including print, broadcast (ideally with international experience), social media and digital content, and skilled in creating high quality content for a wide range of audiences.
* A keen eye for a story and the ability to think creatively. Strong writing skills and an ability to adapt your style and materials to channel and audience.
* A team player, with a proven track record of working across functions and, ideally, across international businesses.
* Experience in global, complex, matrix organisations would be highly advantageous.
* Great stakeholder management skills up to the most senior level.
* Able to understand business information and data and communicate this appropriately, clearly and concisely to different audiences.
* Proven ability to understand complex communication issues and recognise business-wide implications.
* An in-depth understanding of the external environment around sustainability and business communications.
