Main duties of the job As the Lead Specialist Dietitian, this is an opportunity to develop your skills working alongside a dynamic and established Paediatric Dietetic Team, who work within a wide range of areas including Allergy, Bone Marrow Transplant, Cardiothoracic Surgery (based at the Freeman Hospital), Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Ketogenic Diets, Metabolic Disease, Neurology, Oncology, Parenteral Nutrition, and Kidney Disease. The successful candidate will: • Deliver a comprehensive and effective clinical nutrition and dietetic service in the acute hospital in the specialist area • Provide specialist dietetic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and management in the clinical setting and in one or more sub-specialty areas, this may include supplementary prescribing • Act as a source of expertise in nutrition support/education and dietetics to patients, medical staff, health care professionals, relatives, carers and all relevant agencies • Provide expertise to nutrition teams and works in other multidisciplinary teams • Participate in team and multi-disciplinary evaluation, audit and research • Strong leadership skills are essential in this service lead role About us Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the busiest, largest and most successful teaching NHS foundation trusts in the country, with around 16,000 staff and an annual income of £1 billion. Job responsibilities • Lead Specialist Dietitian See appendix for in depth job details. • Provides a professional leadership role in specialist areas of dietetic practice, coaching and mentoring staff and students of any discipline. • If appropriate to the job, role will provide day to day supervision of Dietetic Assistants, Bands 5 and 6 Dietitians. • Provides highly specialist dietetic assessment, treatment, monitoring and management in one or more speciality areas of dietetics • Acts as a source of expertise in dietetics practice locally, regionally and nationally. • Acts as a source of expertise in nutrition support and dietetics to patients, consultants and other health care professionals. • Delivers education and training with staff at all levels. • Contributes to designing, planning and implementing research and audit and contributes to publishing results, working in interdisciplinary teams or with other health professionals. • Works in close association with specialist nurses/other specialised healthcare professionals in named areas in order to deliver integrated services. Person Specification Qualifications & Education Essential • oHCPC registered dietitian. • oDegree in dietetics or science/nutrition degree plus post graduate diploma in dietetics • oRelevant Masters degree or equivalent level of experience and training in the specialist field • oStudent training experience. • oClinical supervision skills course. Desirable • oBasic counselling skills and CBT training. • oTeaching certificate. • oBasic Food Hygiene Certificate.
