Interim Public Protection Head of Service
Service area: Housing Transportation and Public Protection
Following the recent retirement of the Head of Service, I am seeking a highly motivated and experienced colleague to join Housing, Transportation and Public Protection as the Interim Public Protection Head of Service. This role is a brilliant opportunity to lead our Public Protection teams, ensuring the delivery of a wide range of services to residents and businesses in the East Riding. Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams responsible for Food Safety, Environmental Control, Private Sector Housing, Trading Standards and Health, Safety and Licensing functions.
2. Develop services in response to changes in legislation, Council policy, or partnership priorities.
3. Ensure high customer satisfaction and continuous improvement in service delivery.
4. Support strategic developments within Housing, Transportation, and Public Protection.
5. Advise elected members on relevant issues.
6. Investigate complaints from residents and businesses.
7. Effectively manage and monitor income and expenditure against defined budgets.
8. Represent the service on outside bodies and corporate groups.
9. Collaborate with statutory and other agencies to promote effective partnerships.
10. Develop, review, and monitor operational service policies.
11. Produce and present complex reports to senior management, elected members, and colleagues.
12. Ensure consistent implementation of Council policies and procedures, including safeguarding standards.
13. Deputise for the Director as required.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Extensive management and leadership experience.
2. Degree-level qualification in a relevant regulatory discipline.
3. Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
4. Understanding of Food Safety, Environmental Control, Private Sector Housing, Trading Standards, Health and Safety and Local authority Licensing functions.
5. Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
6. Proven ability to manage high-profile service areas and achieve targets.
7. Experience working with elected members and the media.
8. Commitment to continuous professional and managerial development.
