A vacancy has arisen within the Durham & Darlington Coroner Service for a full-time permanent Inquest & Support Officer who will be responsible for organising and managing coronial inquests and hearings.
You will be working alongside a team of investigating Coroner Officers, the Senior Coroner and Assistant Coroners for Durham & Darlington to schedule and facilitate the hearing of inquests in the Coroner’s Court, as well as providing administrative support to the service.
The role will involve liaising with bereaved families, interested persons, witnesses, members of the public and press, therefore applicants should have some experience in a customer-facing role and be able to provide a professional service whilst working under pressure.
The role will operate within an open court where there will be exposure to potentially distressing information.
This is an exciting opportunity within the Coroner Service, providing a vital service to the residents of County Durham and Darlington.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
The Durham & Darlington Coroner Service is made up of a Senior Coroner, several Assistant Coroners, 11 Coroner Officers and four Inquest & Support Officers based in Crook Civic Centre.
You will be responsible for organising and coordinating coronial inquests including remote attendees in Court as well as managing court documentation and recordings, responding to day-to-day enquiries from members of the public and stakeholders and using the case management system to record, update and maintain accurate information regarding cases.
We encourage you to contact Samantha Rogers via email at Samantha.Rogers@durham.gov.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role.
WHAT WILL I NEED?
You should have 4 GCSE's (Grades 4-9 or A*-C including English Language or Literature) or equivalent and NVQ level 2 in Business Administration or related qualification.
You should have strong organisational skills, a high level of attention to detail, be able to work discreetly and confidentially and be competent and comfortable in using a range of ICT equipment and software. You must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
You will each provide effective, flexible and responsive support to the Senior and Assistant Coroners so it will be important to demonstrate flexibility and have the ability to work innovatively and proactively to meet ongoing demands and deadlines, as well as changing priorities, when required.
Please refer to the attached person specification for the full criteria.
