Job Summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.
The Defence School of Logistics and Administration (DSLA), one of three schools in the Defence College of Support (DCSp) delivers training to all Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force service personnel in Supply, Distribution, Catering, and Personnel Administration. The college is predominantly based at Worthy Down - a newly built, modern campus in Winchester.
This role sits within DSLA, and the Logistics Supply Training Wing, providing training for Port Operators and Mariners. We are seeking an experienced Mariner to sit within 73 Squadron, based at Marchwood, Southampton.
The post will be working as part of a small professional team delivering both classroom and afloat maritime training to service personnel.
The position is advertised at 37 hours per week. While there may be the opportunity for home working after training has been completed, attendance to the stated site will be required.

This position is both varied and exciting for those looking to learn and develop their skills in a military environment. We are looking for someone with attention to detail and the ability to work independently and in a team. You will have day to day engagement with staff members of all Services and grades so good communication skills (both written and oral) will prove successful combined with IT proficiency in Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Teams). You will also need to be able to demonstrate time management and interpersonal skills.
Job Description
Your key tasks will be instruction by oral, visual and/or other means on topics within the maritime trade including day and nighttime training at sea. Weekend training will be required for Reserve courses. The alternative working hours are supported through overtime pay or Time Off In Lieu.
* Instruct by oral, visual and/or other means on topics within the maritime trade
* Plan and design learning by preparing lectures and lessons, class work and examinations
* Control and supervise the trainees during periods for which they are under their charge, including responsibility for their safety, discipline and quantity and quality of output
* Coach/Mentor trainees within the training environment
* Maintain course reports, course critiques and course results.
Person specification
Essential
* It is essential that the candidate is of a Mariner Class 1 standard or higher in small boat operations
* The candidate must be able to obtain a Disclosure and Barring Enhanced Criminal Record Check.
Desirable Qualifications Are
* Royal Yachting Association Yachtmaster Instructor
* Royal Yachting Association Powerboat Instructor
* First Aid at Work
* VHF Short Range Certificate
* Royal Naval Basic Sea Survival Course
* Royal Naval Water Safety Equipment Maintainer
* Certificate in Education Level 4
