Job title: Laser Test Engineer
Reports to: Operations Director and Manufacturing & Production Manager
Based at: Rugby
The Laser Test Engineer will be required to test laser systems in a laboratory production environment and will be primarily responsible for all aspects of optomechanical assembly, testing and quality of a range of lamp pumped and diode pumped laser systems.
The role will involve the optical assembly, test and characterisation of high-tech and complex Nd:YAG and Nd:YLF solid-state laser systems.
Teamwork, high quality standards, mechanical dexterity and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. The Laser Test Engineer must be able to work proactively and independently.
This role is ideally suited to graduates in the physical sciences and/or engineering.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
1. Precision optical and mechanical assembly of delicate laser components as part of the production process.
2. Testing and characterisation of laser systems through defined procedures to a high-quality standard.
3. Troubleshooting and problem solving of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies.
4. Analysis of data and presentation of results in a consistent and concise reporting format.
5. Manage test scheduling and results database.
6. Continuous focus on improvement of test station accuracy, repeatability, and productivity.
7. Working knowledge of measurement instrumentation such as optical energy meters, beam profiling equipment, oscilloscopes.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills based on an analytical approach to tasks.
9. Work effectively with co-workers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others.
10. Keeping commitments and keeping others informed of work progress and issues.
11. The Laser Test Engineer will also refer to relevant internal procedures, in particular the Quality ISO 9001: 2015 Policy and Procedures.
12. Work safely and minimise risk in engineering construction.
13. Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety and other relevant regulations and guidelines.
14. Correctly instruct, supervise and transfer skills to any apprentice and semi-skilled led worker assigned to you to ensure safety and quality of work.
15. Safety when using Company products at all times.
16. Use safety equipment, PPE and protective devices and equipment.
