We’re looking for a proactive and organised Distance Learning Facilitator to support prisoners at HMP Millsike with self-directed study for Open University (OU) and Prisoners’ Education Trust (PET) courses. In this rewarding role, you’ll help learners navigate their distance learning, manage in-cell study sessions on Socrates tablets, and apply for further education opportunities. By promoting reading for pleasure and fostering a supportive learning culture, you’ll empower learners to gain new skills, build confidence, and prepare for successful resettlement. About the Role As a Distance Learning Facilitator, you’ll be an essential guide for learners, creating an environment that encourages focused study and personal growth. Through structured sessions, application support, and literacy-building activities, you’ll inspire positive change, supporting learners’ educational journeys and helping them develop self-discipline and a passion for learning. Key Responsibilities Organise and oversee study sessions for learners enrolled in OU and PET courses, providing guidance on study techniques, time management, and addressing learning challenges. Assist learners with applications for OU and PET courses, ensuring they understand processes, deadlines, and available resources to pursue their educational goals. Encourage productive in-cell study via Socrates tablets, helping learners access materials, manage time effectively, and troubleshoot minor technical issues. Integrate literacy activities and encourage reading for personal development, supporting learners of all reading levels to enhance their academic and personal growth. Maintain open communication with OU, PET representatives, and internal prison departments to ensure alignment on course requirements, learner progress, and support needs. Use restorative practices to build a respectful, encouraging atmosphere, reinforcing pro-social behaviours and motivating learners to take ownership of their educational journey.
