Anderson Knight is currently business partnering with a key client who are a large Investment Trust based in Glasgow. This is an exciting time to join the Trust as they have recently brought the maintenance of their accounting ledgers and records in-house utilising SAGE Intacct as their accounting package.
As part of this exciting journey, they are recruiting the position of Senior Accountant who will play a crucial role in shaping the success of the team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role will have a varied scope and will be highly visible - with interaction with Executive Director, Trustees, stakeholders, and suppliers
The Trust operate a close-knit team, and this role is essential in the creation of the financial information to support the management of the Trust. Joining the Trust at this juncture provides a great opportunity to shape the role and the design of the business processes, as well as the use of new software.
The Senior Accountant, will play a key role in maturing the finance processes and controls, while also handling a broad range of financial duties including statutory accounts, management accounts and, tax compliance
The appointed candidate will be reliable and willing to be flexible to cover a variety of duties that support the financial and general management and administration of the Trust. What comes with that is the opportunity to develop and grow in an environment that offers stewardship from senior members of the team. This role offers a high level of autonomy and ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform a monthly review of balance sheet reconciliations, profit & loss supporting schedules and the draft monthly management information pack for review
* Manage the budget setting and reforecasting process, including expenditure budgets and perform in-depth variance analysis
* Play a key part in the statutory accounting processes
* Take on the leading role of superuser in optimising the team’s use of the accounting software.
* Lead in monitoring the Trust’s working capital, producing cash analysis including a daily banking summary, monthly six-month rolling cash flow projections and longer term cashflow forecasts for the Trust and compare them to actual cash flows
* Take an active role in treasury management with oversight of bank reconciliations, and senior administration of the banking platform
* Support the executive team’s oversight and management of the investment activity and administration
* Support the Finance Manager with the tax compliance and reporting requirements of the Trust and in the delivery to the expected standard and timescale
* Support the Executive Director in the management of operational risk by ensuring processes, systems and controls are in place
The ideal candidate will possess the following key skills/attributes:
* Fully Qualified Accountant ACCA/CA/CIMA
* Proven track record in a finance function with reporting responsibilities
* Experience of Year End accounting processes and liaising with external auditors
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Broad understanding of accounting principles and how to apply them
* Able to produce management information and reports
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Self-starter who can work as part of a small finance function but equally on their own
* Highly organised and motivated to deliver within specified timelines
* Experience of working in a strong control environment
* Knowledge of a cloud-based accounting package / SAGE advantageous
