Polypipe Building Products works with national and local developers, plumbing and heating engineers, general builders and groundworkers to deliver above and below ground drainage systems, rainwater solutions as well as hot and cold plastic plumbing products. Role: Based in Doncaster, at our Neale Road manufacturing site, the Process Development Engineer is an integral part of the Development team. The role has responsibility for all of our injection mould tooling validation and optimisation work, as well as involvement in key NPD, Quality and CI activity. The Process Development Engineer is also required to provide support to the Manufacturing team, responding to manufacturing issues and problem solving, as may be necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the moulding department. Responsibilities: Input into both new product design and tooling to ensure the most efficient methodology of manufacturing products to the required specification is determined. Liaison with both in-house and external suppliers of tooling to recommend improvements to existing product and tool designs to ensure most efficient product processing within the specification tolerances. Liaison with external material manufacturers to ensure recommended processing practices are adhered to within the injection moulding process. In conjunction with the Operational team, identify areas for improvements in quality and efficiency and carry out agreed process improvement plans to optimise cycle times. Provide support to the injection moulding department to ensure smooth operation of the moulding shop. Establish and help maintain the standard for the installation and running of our full suite of injection mould tools. Requirements / Skills Proven experience within a high-volume injection moulding environment. Experience of processing a wide range of engineering polymers - preferably including high specification thermoplastic polyolefins, polyamides and sulfone polymers. Knowledge of multiple machinery manufacturers - particularly Negri Bossi, Engel and Fanuc. Experience of a variety of mould tool constructions and feed systems, including hot runners. Excellent communicator with the ability to work and influence within a multi-disciplinary environment. Awareness and interest in new moulding materials, technologies and processes. Ability to create and implement standard operating procedures for a wide range of tools and machines at a detailed level. Experience in utilising CI and Lean techniques and methodologies to improve complex injection moulding processes and carry out detailed quality investigations. Self-starter, able to take the initiative and manage own workload. Ideally possess a relevant polymer processing and materials technology qualification. Ideally possess the required level of training to operate peripheral machinery such as a mould shop lifting apparatus (crane, fork-truck, etc) but this is not essential This is a full time, permanent role with the business.
