This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and dynamic Maxillofacial Unit as a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, working across the sites at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester, and Worthing and Southlands Hospitals. The post is a full-time 12 month fixed-term post, with a view to a substantive appointment. You will join 6 other Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 1 Specialist Doctor, 4 Specialty Doctors, 2 Specialist Registrars and 6 DCT's, to provide the full range of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. The department is renowned for its head and neck surgical dermatology service, which you will contribute to. You will take an active part in teaching and training specialist registrars and DCTs.
Main duties of the job
You will provide a comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgery service to out-patients and in-patients. You will take part in the 1:5 on-call rota for emergency care, based at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester. You will contribute to the surgical management of head and neck skin cancer. You will be involved in teaching and training junior staff. You will support Specialty Doctors and Specialist Doctors in Oral Surgery.

The clinical duties of the post include the following: the post-holder will be expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive oral and maxillofacial service in line with the service commissioned by NHS England. There is a large head and neck surgical dermatology service which they will contribute to. They will contribute to clinical teaching within the department, and will be expected to supervise cases treated by Oral and Maxillofacial trainees. The on-call commitment is 1:5, and based at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester. The second on-call support is shared between the Trust's own Registrars and Portsmouth. The job plan will be based on 10 PAs to include 8 DCC PAs and 2 SPAs, and will allow for flexible working and time shifting.
Person Specification
Experience/Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Eligible for full registration with the GDC
* Success in the Intercollegiate Speciality Examination in OMFS, or approved equivalent, at the time of the AAC
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register in OMFS, or eligibility for entry, within 6 months of the date of the AAC
* CCT in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
* Training the Trainers course
* ES and CS certification
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Ability to perform the clinical requirements of the post, in particular experience of surgical management of head and neck skin cancers.
* Experience in the management of head, neck and facial trauma
* Experience of working in an MDT setting for management of head and neck skin cancer
* Experience of navigational surgery
* Experience of sentinel lymph node biopsy
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
