Job summary
Shelley Manor and Holdenhurst Road Medical Centre are looking for forward thinking, committed practice nurse to join our large, multi disciplinary primary care team. Our core clinical practice team includes:
1. 10 partners
2. 4 Salaried GPs / Retainers
3. 2 ANPs
4. 3 Practice nurses
5. 3 HCAs
6. 1 Phlebotomist
Main duties of the job
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate.

We are a large, training practice working across two sites with a diverse patient population of 27,000 patients across east Bournemouth.
Job responsibilities
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current and ongoing training needs.
1. Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including vaccinations and medicines, food hygiene, sun protection.
2. Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
3. Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake, and exercise.
4. Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.
5. Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines.
6. Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral.
7. Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for ear irrigation and cervical cytology smear tests.
8. Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines.
9. Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence-based guidelines.
10. Suture removal and taking ECGs.
11. Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
12. Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
13. Assist in the provision of minor surgery and obtain/document informed consent.
14. Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
15. Monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment.
16. Confidentiality of information gained at work must be preserved at all times.
Managerial:
1. Contribute to the assessment of service needs.
2. Assist patients to identify their health needs.
3. Contribute a nursing perspective to the practice development plan.
4. Manage and organise individual patient consultations.
5. Attend staff meetings and ensure effective relationships with the PHCT and other agencies.
Educational:
1. Identify personal development and training needs in conjunction with the manager.
2. Participate in clinical supervision where required.
3. Support others with their training and development needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
1. Registered Nurse
2. Evidence of appropriate knowledge base.
3. Broad knowledge of clinical governance.
4. Knowledge of Infection Prevention Control including Public Health issues in the local area.
5. Ability to record accurate clinical notes.
6. Experience of working in a primary care environment.
7. Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of community development approaches.
2. Experience of working in a complex organisation.
