Construction Manager – SSE ASTI, Substations

Murphy is currently recruiting for a Construction Manager to join our award-winning Energy team on the SSE ASTI Framework in Scotland covering Power, Transmission & Distribution projects such as Substations. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Construction Manager will provide leadership for all construction phase activities within the Project Teams promoting Health, Safety, and Environmental and construction best practice across the project in close liaison with the Project Managers.
Following the ‘One Murphy’ approach, we’re able to deliver all aspects of the projects we work on. Murphy has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients such as National Grid, SSE and Ørsted, on both transmission and distribution networks within the Energy sector.
What will you be doing:
1. Overall management of project teams during the construction and installation phase of the project.
2. Co-ordination of constructability input during solutions identification and development phase.
3. Co-ordination and allocation of construction staff to projects ensuring that appropriate construction and installation staff are appointed to projects: based on experience, skills and knowledge.
4. Liaises with the Project Managers to ensure that the construction resource pool is an appropriate size, with an appropriate blend of skill sets for the projected workload.
5. Overall management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
6. Overall performance management of subcontractors.
7. Ensures that all construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.
8. Ensures that the duties of the Principal Contractor are discharged in accordance with the CDM Regulations.
9. Ensures that all temporary and permanent construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with quality procedures.
10. Interfaces with all other functional leaders within the organisation to facilitate successful development of the project from solution stage constructability through construction, installation, commissioning, and handover to the client.
11. Ensure regular input from the Project Manager is gained on third party, environmental and public relations issues.
Who we're looking for:
12. Experience in delivering HV substation projects.
13. Experience within a Construction Manager role or similar.
14. HNC / HND or NVQ Level 5 (or Degree)
15. Experience of working on complex multi-discipline Enhancement projects.
16. Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to develop close working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
17. A true leader with passion for people development, can do attitude and a flare for innovation.
