Job Purpose:
This role will be supporting the Health, Safety and Environment Manager and the Operations Teams to drive implementation and maintenance of an ambitious programme of Health, Safety and Environmental improvements. Furthermore, to be responsible for delivering safety, health, and environmental improvement activities, and providing competent advice and coaching in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
1. With the HSE Manager, implement and manage a Health, Safety and Environmental strategy for the Business.
2. Providing guidance, support and leadership to both operational management and employees.
3. Support the HSE Manager in cultivating a strong safety culture, fostering awareness and promoting a proactive approach to risk management.
4. Investigate incidents/accidents to identify causes and determine how such incidents/accidents might be prevented in the future. Challenge actions/behaviours that are unsafe.
5. Undertaking site safety tours, inspections, accident investigations, chairing engagement forums and audits on a regular basis.
6. Working with line managers and employees to ensure risk assessments and safe systems of work are prepared and reviewed as necessary.
7. Monitoring the implementation of the Company’s HSE policies, drawing any concerns to the attention of the HSE Manager.
8. Recommend measures to help protect employees from potential hazards.
9. Inspect or evaluate workplace environments to ensure compliance with safety standards.
10. Maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, or ventilation surveys etc. as required.
11. Maintaining the IMS relating to safety, health, environment and quality.
12. Control and distribution of all PPE Equipment.
13. Ensure induction of all new staff joining the organisation or existing staff changing role and the update of presentations used.
14. Co-ordination of site specific and Group Health and Safety Committees, ensuring the participation of management and elected representatives.
15. Support HSE Manager in making submissions required by governmental agencies e.g., Environment Agency.
16. Stay abreast of Health & Safety and Environmental legislation changes and update relevant policies accordingly.
17. Any other reasonable duties associated with the role or projects assigned to meet the overall objectives of the role.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
18. Around 3 to 5 years experience in a similar role ideally in the FMCG/Food Manufacturing industry.
19. Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject and IOSH qualified.
20. NEBOSH and IEMA qualified would be desirable but not essential.
21. Strong understanding of Regulatory Requirements and Procuedures and the ability to ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety legislation.
22. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to thrive in a highly demanding, fast-paced working environment.
23. Experience with delivering training and coaching, writing and reviewing management system procedures and carrying out workplace auidts and inspections.
24. Considerable drive and the desire to acheive.
25. Pragmatic and pro-active.
26. Root cause analysis and strong commercial awareness.
Shift Pattern:
27. Monday to Friday (Office based) however the role would be expected to work the hours required for the satisfactory performance of the role. This includes the need for to adjust working hours as and when required to cover the HSE requirements of the Business e.g., meeting with employees on various shifts.
