Zanda is an Executive Search partner that works exclusively with high growth startups & scaleups as they look to identify market leading CFOs to help take their business to the next level. Zanda partners with VCs, Founders, CEOs, and CFOs when it comes to successfully delivering on key senior appointments.
Who is the business?
Zanda is partnering with a high growth B2B CleanTech firm providing hardware and software solutions into industry to help reduce energy waste. The business has seen 10x growth in the last 18 months and is looking for an experienced CFO to join the business to lead in building best in class processes across a broad range of areas covering strategic planning, fundraising, investor relations, board reporting, tax, risk, legal and compliance.
The business in question is an award-winning technology lead sustainability innovator. Since the business raised its Series A it has made significant progress in the development of its senior leadership team but as the business approaches their Series B it is time to bring in a confident CFO operator with lots of experience within VC backed startups / scaleups.
The successful CFO will play a leading role in the businesses objective to raise more funding to help facilitate even further growth / scale. To enable that funding and subsequent growth the CFO's initial task will be focused in 3 main areas.
1. Building a best in class finance function that is insightful and scalable. Requiring someone to be hands-on in the review of the current team, systems and processes and leading in all areas of improvements.
2. Improving the commercial decision making process by playing an active role in challenging commercial decisions with the most relevant data. Helping the business to transition to a KPI / Data-driven environment to drive discussion around key areas such as capital allocation strategy.
3. Preparing the business to be investor ready with an appropriate model, story, deck and data room capable of passing any due diligence exercise.
A key element for success in this role will be the healthy balance between IQ and EQ as this role will be highly influential in inspiring and being able to bring people on the journey with them, whether that be investors, members of the finance team and C-suite peers. It is likely that the business will look to double in size in the next 2-3 years and therefore we are looking for a CFO who knows what good looks like in a business of 100 - 200 employees.
Experience you will gain:
1. Provide strategic support to the CEO & Board, sharing responsibility for the development and execution of the strategy.
2. Support on fundraising efforts and lead on relations with investors.
3. Support commercial teams with financial insights, models, and business calculations to support commercial activities.
4. Provide management information to alert the Board of any significant trends or issues.
5. Ensure the budgeting and forecasting process is run smoothly, monitoring cash flow and regular re-forecasts.
6. Manage all finance operations: accounting, payroll, supply chain, legal, tax and treasury.
7. Establish and manage a range of company processes and controls to allow the company to grow according to the growth plan.
8. Maintain key external relationships including investors, bankers, tax advisors and lawyers.
9. Build, develop and lead the Finance function, with a strong emphasis on right sizing for growth.
What background should you have before you press apply!
1. Experienced CFO that has previously operated within a Private Equity or Venture Capital backed Startup / Scaleup that has experienced growth.
2. Significant experience within an industry where there are large scale bids / competitive commercial contracts such as within IoT, hardware, manufacturing, renewable energy, real estate, infrastructure or software.
3. Excellent investor relations, fundraising, M&A or exit experience.
4. Strategic thinker with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
