The post holder will be a member of the multi-disciplinary CAMHS Service (formally CAMHS/Springleigh Child & Family Therapy Services) and will be based within the YJS. This post will be focused on early intervention and ensuring that groups of vulnerable children and young people have access to mental health advice and support. The post holder is responsible for providing mental health assessments and brief psychotherapeutic interventions and assisting in navigating local mental health systems for children and young people who are involved with the YJS. The role will also involve providing advice, training, and consultation to other members of YJS, parents/carers, and other agencies. The post will provide a close link between CAMHS and YJS.
Main duties of the job
1. To ensure high quality mental health assessment of children and young people referred to YJS.
2. To identify the need for assessment through liaison with the Police, Courts, Probation, YJS, CAMHS and other appropriate agencies for young offenders who may also be experiencing mental health issues.
3. To provide access to a range of quality psychotherapeutic interventions in accordance with individual assessed need. This will include the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of therapeutic approaches either alone or as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).
4. To deliver highly specialised and therapeutic input to children and young people referred to the team.
5. Work as a co-therapist where appropriate with other members of the MDT.
6. To be responsible for and manage a defined complex caseload and undertake case management responsibilities within the caseload.

Job responsibilities
1. To identify and develop strategies to manage risk to the child/young person and others in line with Pennine Care and CAMHS and YJS procedures and protocols.
2. To liaise closely with a wide range of agencies regarding individual care packages and to promote awareness of child and adolescent mental health issues within these agencies.
3. Undertake liaison and joint work with other agencies.
4. To act as appropriate adult to children/young people who have offended and who may also have a mental health issue.
5. To provide information around young offenders to the court as necessary and to attend court in order to provide support to the young person.
6. To provide assessments to those young people who may need to be diverted out of the criminal justice system and present those cases at the Mentally Vulnerable Offenders Panel.
7. To give advice and support to the manager of the Youth Justice Service in terms of the development of services to meet the mental health needs of young offenders.
8. To provide consultation and training on a wide range of children/young people's emotional health and well-being issues to professionals from a range of services including GPs, Early Help and Primary Care Services, Adult Mental Health Services, Social Care and Education Services.
9. To engage in and deliver managerial and clinical supervision, including with appropriate consent, recording and reviewing of live clinical work.
10. Ensure collection of relevant information required by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.
11. To routinely monitor effectiveness of clinical work by the use of Routine Outcome Measures (ROM) and where outcomes are not improving for children, young people, and families to engage in clinical review via peer review meetings and supervision.
12. To contribute to the YJS duty rota and to work flexibly (including occasional weekends).
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* Professional qualifications relevant to work in child and adolescent mental health e.g. nursing, social work, clinical psychology to masters level or equivalent experience.
* Specialist post qualification training in psychological therapy with children and families to at least equivalent of a post graduate diploma level.
* Accreditation with the appropriate accrediting bodies governing the specific modality (e.g. BABCP, IY).
* Additional post graduate qualifications relevant to child mental health.
* Additional accredited training.
Experience
* Experience of working with children, young people who have been involved with the youth justice system.
* Experience of working with children, young people and their families presenting with mental health concerns/problems.
* Experience of working in a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) setting.
* Managing a caseload.
* Experience of providing evidence-based psychological therapy to children and young people and their families.
* Experience of providing clinical supervision and line management to team members.
* Experience of using ROM.
* Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
* Experience in developing formulations.
* Significant experience working in a multi-agency context.
* Working in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating.
