Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
The Finance Apprentice will be part of the transaction processing and reporting team, reporting directly into the Head of Finance. This is a developmental role with a core focus on transaction processing but will work across the business to improve right first-time processing rates and promote effective budget management. The role will also be outward facing interacting with suppliers and customers.
Main duties include:
* Management of the Purchase Ledger to ensure all accounts are maintained, including accurate allocation of payments
* Input of all purchase invoices into the accounting system and matching to PO. For any unmatched invoices, follow up with the relevant cost centre owner for approval and PO to be raised
* Reconciling supplier statements
* Dealing with supplier queries
* Producing recommendations for weekly payment runs and processing payment runs
* Closing WIP orders
* Processing expense claims
* Managing petty cash
* Cover for sales ledger processing
* Ad-hoc tasks to assist the Head of Finance

* Record transactional data.
* Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
* Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
* Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
* Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
* Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
* Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Other requirements
Please ensure that you can travel to Sunderland for an 8:30am start. Applicants should be keen to develop a career in accountancy and be able to attend fortnightly day release sessions for the AAT level 2 Apprenticeship at Access Training on Team Valley, Gateshead.
