We’re looking for a skilled Harbour MEICA Project Engineer to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the critical infrastructure of the Bristol City Docks. Working alongside the Principal Docks Engineer & Harbour Master you’ll be at the heart of operations, ensuring our hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems run smoothly. What will I Be Doing?
You’ll oversee maintenance, operations, and compliance for vital dock infrastructure, ensuring smooth and efficient operations at all times. Leading from the front, you’ll define, coordinate, and supervise work programs for staff and contractors, driving projects forward and setting the standard for excellence. You’ll conduct risk assessments and enforce top-tier safety standards, making sure everyone stays safe and compliant with regulations. With your hands-on approach, you’ll manage inspections, servicing, and repairs to minimize downtime and keep everything running at peak performance.
You’ll keep projects on track and within budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently for successful project completion. As a leader, you’ll guide and support a multi-disciplinary team to deliver outstanding service, fostering collaboration and a positive work environment. You’ll also maintain technical instructions, safety audits, operational manuals, and statutory applications, ensuring all documentation is current and accurate.
You’ll play a key role in planning, coordinating, and supervising engineering projects with the local authority and the wider community around the harbour, ensuring success at every stage. Understanding best practices in infrastructure maintenance, risk assessments, safety regulations, and statutory compliance, you’ll keep the highest standards across the board. As you develop your leadership skills, you’ll manage contractors, staff, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to work together seamlessly. And when challenges arise, you’ll handle them with confidence, ensuring operations continue to run smoothly under pressure.
What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications: BEng (Hons) or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience:
* Working in multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical engineers).
* Involved in managing site operations, budgets, and personnel.
* Hands-on maintenance of marine structures, hydraulic systems, and electrical equipment ideally in a marine environment.
* Knowledge of asset management software and HSE protocols.
* Strong problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.
* Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and engineering software.
* Ability to swim and a valid driving license.
* Willingness to participate in the out-of-hours emergency calls.
Bonus Skills (Desirable but Not Essential!)
Hands-on experience in fabrication, welding, lathe work, carpentry, or heavy machinery operations.
Knowledge of swing bridges, dredging techniques, or preventative maintenance systems.
