Datacove Brighton, England, United Kingdom
Data Analyst
About us
Datacove are a Brighton based data and analytics consultancy, founded by Jeremy Horne during the middle of the global pandemic in 2020. In just a few years, we have grown into a recognised and award-winning brand, known for our expertise in data-driven decision-making and our commitment to the tech community.
As hosts of the international tech conference EARL and organisers of meetups nationwide, we are passionate about sharing knowledge, mentoring future analysts, and shaping the future of data and analytics.
Our achievements have earned us an IPA effectiveness bronze award for econometric modelling and we are currently finalists in both the ‘Business of the Year’ and ‘Employer of the Year’ categories at the Gatwick Diamond awards, recognising both our industry impact and dedication to creating an inspiring workplace.
We specialise in saving businesses time and money by helping them make smarter decisions through three core areas:
1. Marketing & Consumer Analytics – We help you identify your ideal customers and find more of them at the lowest possible cost - maximising ROI, without sacrificing sales.
2. Data Visualisation & Web Applications – We create tools that deliver clear insights, helping you save time, reduce costs, and make smarter decisions.
3. Community – We inspire and empower through training and mentorship programmes, community events, and tech conferences and building your own in-house data teams.
Our passion for mathematics, statistics, and technology means we tailor every solution to fit our clients’ data rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Using R and Python, we build solutions that range from statistical models and predictive analytics to automation and machine learning, helping businesses make the most of their data.
The plan going forward? It’s simple. We want to make sure that every brand can use data more effectively, make better decisions, and feel inspired by the possibilities of data analytics.
About the role
As we continue to grow, we are looking for an analyst to join our team and support on a range of analytics deliverables, initially over a six-month period, but with potential to extend should we continue to grow. Ideally, this role would suit a graduate who is keen to learn how to apply some of their knowledge to a range of different business sectors, with mentorship from our team of data scientists. Part-time options over the initial six months can also be considered, on request.
Whilst this role is advertised as remote, we are ideally looking for somebody local to Brighton and Hove and that would be happy to collaborate face-to-face semi-regularly, including (as a minimum) a half day monthly team meeting.
Given we are a small team (and still in start-up mode), there will also be a need to assist with internal business needs, planning and marketing of our events. You will also have opportunities to network and source new clients, which if successful, would result in a referral bonus, and possible extension on the contract.
The day-to-day responsibilities will include:
* Assist in the delivery of analytical projects (including reading, cleaning, summarising and presenting data), primarily within Python or R, but utilising other skills and technologies as required.
* Supporting in the build of statistical models (e.g. linear regression and machine learning methods).
* Working alongside the team to liaise with and present results to key client contacts (usually together, but with occasional independence).
* Sourcing potential new clients/projects (including attending business networking events) and marketing the business and our conference, meetups and training courses.
* Assist in the organising and hosting our community groups, and production and delivery of training courses, data coaching and YouTube “how to” videos.
About you
All our analysis is currently done in either R or Python and for us to work together effectively, strong skills within at least one of these languages is an essential requirement for this role. Alongside this, the successful candidate will also possess the following essential skills:
* Graduate in mathematics or subject of an equivalent scientific nature.
* Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to explain data to non-numerate individuals.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
* Thirst for knowledge, growth and development.
There are also several skills that would be desirable (not least to fuel business growth) within successful candidates – but none of which are essential to the day-to-day role itself:
* Some knowledge of other coding languages, e.g. SQL, Java, etc.
* Previous experience with data analyst workflows, e.g. Jupyter Notebooks or RStudio.
* Experience with BI technologies, e.g. Shiny, PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.
* Some knowledge/experience with marketing technologies, e.g. Google analytics, Google Campaign manager, etc.
* Previous exposure to cloud technologies, e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP.
* Knowledge/experience of working with open APIs.
Package
* Competitive salary (dependent on experience).
* Fully remote, although occasionally we will need to meet in our central Brighton co-working space (PLATF9RM Brighton) to collaborate on projects and business planning (travel/accommodation expenses not included).
* Flexible 36-hour week (with some core hours to be agreed in advance).
* 28 days holiday per year, pro-rated for the length of contract.
* Additional day of out of office each year to volunteer with a charity of your choice, pro-rated for the length of contract.
* Travel (and where necessary, accommodation) expenses to/from client meetings and company run events fully covered by the company.
