Job overview
This is a 2 year fixed-term post under the Manchester International Training Fellowship programme. The appointee would be based in the cardiothoracic transplantation and organ retrieval service for 12 months and further 12 months in adult cardiothoracic surgery depending on the needs of the department and trainee. The role will combine working alongside and supporting consultant transplant surgeons within theatre with organ transplants and with the organ retrieval teams providing an on-call service on a full shift basis on an EWTD compliant rota. This post is suitable for individuals seeking a period of higher training in transplant and organ retrieval to hone their skills. Candidates will also get adult cardiothoracic surgery experience and exposure to CABG, Valve procedures, complex multi-valve surgeries, and mechanical circulatory support.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post are to provide cardiac and thoracic organ retrieval cover after full training. This is a 1:5 rota with prospective cover; this rota is a non-resident rota.
The postholder will also be required to join the transplant rota to cover the CTCCU and transplant ward.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Holds acceptable primary medical qualification
* At least 3 years of full-time equivalent postgraduate training
* Competence in managing cardiothoracic emergencies
* Evidence of clinical competencies in sternotomy, cannulation for initiation of cardio-pulmonary bypass, bronchoscopy skills.
* An appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
* A commitment to personal CPD
* Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree
* Logbook
* Valid Life Support Course (ACLS, ALS, ATLS, APLS or similar)
* Involvement in Research and Publication
Experience
* Not failed any part of PLAB examination
* Engaged in medical practice for 3 out of last 5 years including the most recent 12 months.
* Passed Postgraduate qualification in first attempt
* Not previously been turned down for sponsorship by a GMC approved sponsor
Employer certification / accreditation badges
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
