We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Teaching Assistant / Classroom Assistantwith a good standard of numeracy and literacy and excellent interpersonal skills.
Working as the Teaching Assistant / Classroom Assistant you will be enthusiastic and calm and will have a genuine interest in working with students who have a variety of additional needs.
As the Teaching Assistant / Classroom Assistant you will work closely with teaching and non-teaching staff and will provide support across a range of different curriculum subjects. The ability to work flexibly and independently are important qualities for the role.
DUTIES
Your duties and key responsibilities as the Teaching Assistant / Classroom Assistantwill include:
1. Responsible for the delivery of early morning catch up sessions with individual students and small groups as directed by the SENCo
2. Support staff in dealing with safeguarding issues as appropriate
3. Assist with the induction of new staff
4. Keep up to date with new pedagogy/ new technologies/ curriculum initiatives and their use and impact to enhance learning across the curriculum
5. Participate in the evaluation of the learning support programmes
6. Maintain student progress records
7. In conjunction with the class teacher and/or other professionals assist the development of a system of recording student’s progress
8. Contribute to reviews of student’s progress
9. Carry out special duties if the student's Statement specifies In the case of a physical disability some help with exercises may be necessary (training will be given), or maintain frequent liaison with parents in order to monitor the disability
10. Provide regular feedback about a student to the teacher
11. Take into account the special needs of student involved, to aid the student to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on his/her own by, for example:
12. clarifying and explaining instructions
13. ensuring that all students are able to use equipment and materials provided
14. motivating and encouraging student as required
15. assisting in weak areas, language, behaviour, reading, spelling, handwriting and presentation, etc
16. helping students to concentrate on and finish work set
17. meeting physical needs as required whilst encouraging independence
18. Assist with class teacher (and other professionals as appropriate), in the development of a suitable programme of support for students with special needs
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
19. Must have a genuine interest in working with students who have a variety of additional needs
20. Excellent interpersonal skills
21. Good standard of numeracy and literacy
22. Able to work flexibly and independently
23. Calm under pressure
24. Experience in the classroom would be an advantage
