Job overview
We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and flexible family therapist to contribute to the FEDs (Feeding and Eating Disorders Service) at a time of change and development. There will be opportunities to contribute to service developments within the FEDS team itself as well as in the Family Therapy stream more widely. It is an opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills working with experienced colleagues.
In addition to FEDS, the post holder would join a team of six family therapists who are part of Psychological Services and who work as part of GOSH mental health services and with paediatric specialities across the wider hospital.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be working in the Feeding and Eating Disorders Service (FEDS). The work includes direct therapeutic work, consultation, supervision, teaching and training. It may also include consultation to wider networks and services. In addition to which, there will be opportunities to contribute to the service's ongoing development.
At the same time, there are opportunities to gain experience working alongside other experienced Family Therapy and other colleagues across the hospital. Family Therapy is highly valued at GOSH and professional development is encouraged and well supported.

Person specification
* Post-graduate family/systemic therapy training to MSc level or equivalent as accredited by the Association of Family Therapy.
* UKCP registration as systemic psychotherapist/ family therapist.
* Registration as a Supervisor in Family Therapy.
Experience/Knowledge
* Substantial assessed experience of working as a qualified clinician at a highly specialist level.
* Experience and application of evidence-based treatments working with children and young people with feeding and eating disorders.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, and presenting with the full range of clinical severity.
* Experience of representing discipline within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
* Experience of the application of discipline in different cultural contexts and of working in a multicultural framework.
* Experience of teaching or training and presenting to multidisciplinary audiences at conferences or other educational settings.
* Previous experience working with looked after and adopted children or children subject to child protection plans.
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and young people and child protection.
* Experience of supervising trainees, qualified staff and/or other professionals.
* Experience of preparing highly complex assessment reports, detailing appropriate formulations and recommendations.
* Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
* Knowledge of theory & practice of specialised therapies in children and adolescents and their families with attachment difficulties and complex trauma.
* Experience or qualification within the field of child protection/social work or nursing background.
* Record of having published in peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books.
Skills/Abilities
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their carers, and other professionals.
* Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Skills in the use of complex specialist systemic family psychotherapy assessment, intervention and clinical management.
* Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
* Evidence of skilled and productive multidisciplinary team working.
* Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
* Ability to identify research needs of service and conduct research.
* Ability to prepare concise, evidence-based, coherent reports summarizing large volumes of information from multiple sources whilst adhering to strict timeframes.
* Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.
* Ability to articulate and interpret clearly the role of the systemic family therapist based upon the framework of national professional policy.
