Position Summary This position requires performance of a variety of food preparation duties other than cooking, such as prepping hot and cold foods for packaging of meal components and occasional delivery of meals to program sites when necessary. This position will be responsible for supporting the Kitchen Manager and Assistant Kitchen Manager in a kitchen operation that prepares daily meals to be delivered to youth program sites in Sussex and Kent counties. The meals will be prepared under the nutritional guidelines specified in the USDA and State of Delaware youth food service programs. This job requires strict compliance with food safety and overall sanitary guidelines as directed in federal and state regulations as well as those set forth by the Kitchen Manager and Assistant Kitchen Manager. Essential functions: Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils. Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage. Prepare a variety of foods according to supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures. Ensure ingredients are tagged, date-labeled, covered, stored and rotated effectively. Portion, wrap and package the food in preparation for meal deliveries. Place food trays over food warmers for immediate service, or store them in refrigerated storage cabinets. Weigh or measure ingredients. Wash and prepare food products for cooking or serving. Maintain log to track quantity of ingredients and supplies. Work on prep lines to assemble meal components. Deliver meals to locations throughout Sussex and Kent County as needed. Qualifications and Education Requirements Educational Requirement: High school degree or equivalent Two years’ experience working in a commercial kitchen is preferred, but not required Serve Safe certification (required within first 90 days of employment) Competencies/Skills/Experience: Excellent understanding of food preparation fundamentals. Sound understanding of food allergies and foodborne illnesses. Basic mathematical skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must possess a valid driver’s License for at least 3 years and no more than 5 points on driving record Working Conditions: Position requires occasional pushing of cart, bending, reaching and climbing Standing for prolonged periods of time Frequent light to moderate lifting Work Hours: 7 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (Hours may vary according to the production needs of the kitchen. Occasional evening or weekends may be required).
