Job Summary
We are delighted to offer an opportunity to join our adult acute mental health team. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist who has an interest in providing care to service users on our mental health inpatient wards.
This position would suit an Occupational Therapist who is looking to consolidate skills acquired from experience within mental health and wishes to progress and engage in training in this clinical area.
You will need to be a dynamic, adaptable clinician with good interpersonal skills to enable engagement of service users and staff in the therapeutic programme.
This post will sit within the ward MDT team, with support and access to a wider OT team and professional network within acute services. Each ward currently has 2x Occupational Therapists and 1x Occupational Therapy Assistant within each ward MDT. You will receive additional support and supervision from other Occupational Therapists within the unit and the OT Clinical Lead.
This post welcomes applicants who are newly qualified as we are able to support you through a preceptorship programme.
Main duties of the job
Within the role you will need to have the ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver a clear OT service on the ward for patients with acute mental health needs.
You will need to show initiative, drive and ability to think creatively for solutions.
The service users we care for often have complex mental health needs, and at times may display challenging behaviour. The post holder will be required to be a dynamic clinician and demonstrate a range of skills, including effective communication, empathy, self-awareness, and self-reflection skills.
You will be responsible for providing OT assessments to determine patient skill level and offer recommendations for discharge.
You will be required to attend clinical ward rounds and offer your OT perspectives to ensure the provision of holistic and recovery-focused care.
You will be required to facilitate both group and one-to-one interventions to service users to support them in their recovery and prepare them for discharge.
