The post-holder will deliver education learning and development across all disciplines, focusing on pediatrics, ensuring high quality education is delivered to medical students from Newcastle and Sunderland Universities.
The post will specifically work within the role as Clinical Educator for all disciplines with a focus on the delivery of Child health curriculum for Undergraduate Medical students.
Main duties of the job
1. Respond at directorate level to national initiatives quickly and effectively in a way that is tailored to the needs of the department.
2. Plan and deliver structured and opportunistic teaching in clinical skills for all medical students as required.
3. Provide clinical teaching to medical students supported by clinical tutors.
4. Design, develop, co-ordinate and deliver programmes of teaching and learning for undergraduate medical students in child health within an inter-professional educational context.
5. Coordinate placements and clinical experience for medical students by liaising with clinical staff across the trust and community as well as recruitment of patients and role players for teaching in the classroom and ward or clinic environment as well as exams.
6. Plan, facilitate and deliver teaching to undergraduate medical students with patients in the classroom and ward or clinic environment, including history taking, clinical examination, clinical skills, simulation-based teaching and advanced communication skills.

1. Undertake assessment processes to ensure clinical competencies of medical students in clinical and simulated environments.
2. Provide teaching and coaching within the clinical areas.
3. Develop, test, evaluate and embed innovative teaching methods including scenario-based and simulation-based teaching activities as and when required.
4. Contribute to and support pastoral care for medical students, including supporting underperforming students and giving feedback.
5. Act as an educational resource and support for all students.
6. Contribute to patient safety through the development of the workforce and by contributing to mandatory training programmes.
7. Undertake research and development relevant to education in practice and the clinical learning environment.
8. Contribute on a regular basis to the core provision of education throughout the year as directed by the Medical Education and Quality Lead.
