Outwood Redcar Academy are seeking to recruit an inspirational technology specialist to teach in hard materials and food. This role is of great importance to our work as an Academy. The ideal applicant will have the ability to put vision into practice and detailed knowledge of current developments in education including the use of the Pupil Premium. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching inspiring students to achieve their potential within design and food technology. This opportunity is open to both ECTs and experienced teachers.
Our curriculum is taught on a term rotation at key stage 3 with year 7, 8, and 9 developing their skills in the key areas of technology such as food, resistant materials and graphic design. Students make their choice of specialism in year 9. At key stage 4 students study WJEC Level 1 /2 Hospitality and catering and AQA Design Technology.
This role will involve working closely with the Head of Department. The exact nature of the role and teaching commitment will be based upon the strengths of the successful candidate and the needs of the department.
We have a well-resourced Design Technology department with new 3d printers, laser engravers, and computer suites. The food department has two cooking rooms and is well equipped with a blast freezer and various catering equipment.
ECTs have access to a mentor within their department and are able to meet with them regularly.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and deliver engaging curriculum content in Design Technology for various year groups.
* Assess and evaluate student performance, providing constructive feedback to support their progress.
* Foster a safe and creative classroom environment that encourages experimentation and critical thinking.
* Collaborate with colleagues to enhance cross-curricular learning experiences and initiatives.
* Stay updated with industry trends and educational advancements to continuously improve teaching practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Qualified teacher status (QTS) with a specialisation in Design Technology or a related field.
* Strong knowledge of design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students and staff.
* Proven ability to create lesson plans that engage and inspire students.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for education.
