Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Porter to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of our facilities while providing exceptional customer service. This position requires effective communication skills and the ability to drive, ensuring a smooth operation within our premises.
Homegrown Hospitality is a family-run business that has been providing outstanding catering for weddings and events across Yorkshire since 2013.
We are recruiting for the role of Event Porter to support our team of chefs in the prep kitchen and to help in the event kitchen to deliver service on event days.
Unlike other porter roles, this comes with the benefits of added responsibility in the service kitchen, and we offer a varied work week which includes 2 to 3 prep days, 1 to 2 days at the venue, and a cleardown/reset day (5 days total). This role comes with potential for progression for the right candidate.
As an Event Porter, your role includes management of the warehouse and logistics of all equipment. It is your responsibility to ensure all equipment is clean and in working order before and after each event.
Reporting to our Head Chef, you will be tasked with looking after the cleanliness and general upkeep of our prep kitchen in line with EHO Regulations, as well as ensuring that our kitchen teams have all of the relevant equipment in place when they arrive at an event.
Your work week will run Tuesday – Saturday or Wednesday – Sunday throughout our busiest season – usually May – October. Wednesday – Friday are normal days – 9am-5pm, Saturday is usually a long day and Sunday is a short one, 4-6 hrs. Out of season, you will benefit from a 4-day week Jan – March as well as extended bonus holiday at Christmas, events calendar permitting.
On prep days (Weds – Fri), you will be required to ensure that the fridges, freezers, and dry stores are kept in order with everything labelled clearly and any perished food disposed of. You will be tasked to ensure that the kitchen equipment is washed and put away quickly. You will also be required to carry out some simple kitchen duties such as veg prep and piece work tasks; much of this work will be dictated by your ability, and those who show promise will be given more in-depth tasks. At the end of the day, you will be required to ensure that the kitchen is clean and tidy and ready for the next day.
On event days, you will accompany one of our event chefs and work as his/her right-hand man/woman, aiding the delivery of service. At the end of the day, you will help the chefs and co-ordinator to load the vans and leave the venue kitchen clean and tidy.
After an event, you will be leading our kitchen porters through cleardown back at the premises where you will be required to offload all vans, clean all equipment, and restock ready for use again the following week.
