We have an exciting vacancy for a Band 5 Performance Manager/Diagnostic within the Cellular Pathology department.
This post will monitor the performance of the Cellular Pathology department, keeping an oversight of patients on suspected cancers pathway awaiting histology results. It is essential to improve FDS performance and ensuring patients' results are available to clinicians as soon as possible.
The applicant will have a proven track record of working across cancer services, pathology and other specialities within an acute hospital setting.
You will be expected to have the ability to cope well under pressure, possess good customer care skills, be able to communicate at all levels, have good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your own workload
Main duties of the job
The post holder will monitor the progress of patients results and liaise with the Cellular Pathology team to aid the prioritisation of patients, helping to expedite reporting of results, improve communication and decrease overall turnaround times for Pathology.
The post holder will also provide a point of contact for other specialties and MDT coordinators. The role will also provide crucial safety netting for patients, whereby any incidental findings are communicated swiftly to the MDT coordinators to ensure the urgent pickup of any cancer results for patients not referred on a suspected cancer pathway.
The role will involve dealing directly with a variety of staff grades, both internal and external.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide performance information to Lead BMS and higher management team
Monitor capacity and demand and escalate as appropriate.
Monitor performance against KPI/KAI
Identify performance issues and escalate where necessary
Assist with resolving issues and complaints
Assist with investigations into clinical incidents and Quality failures.
Ensure the department performance is measured against local and national targets including FDS pathways.
Liaise with external providers (both NHS and private) to ensure timely reporting and escalate issues.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Educated to degree level or NVQ level 4 (or equivalent) together with practical experience
Desirable criteria
* Update courses in national targets
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
* Previous experience in Pathology/Cancer services
* Significant previous administrative experience within a busy hospital setting
* Knowledge of targets including cancer 2 week rule, 31/62 day rules, FDS
Desirable criteria
* Performance management and use of PTL’s for monitoring against targets.
* Management systems: patient tracking lists, performance, management of waiting lists
* Awareness of histopathology improvement plans e.g. 6 point plan

* Organised with good time management skills
* Excellent interpersonal and people skills with a requirement for negotiation, diplomacy and tact
* Ability to present relevant information in a concise format
Desirable criteria
