The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Vice President, R&D Finance and Business Planning & Evaluation, as the Director, Finance BP - Alliances & Post Deal Management, you will have a number of external strategic alliances with external parties that are often driven through business development and licensing activities. You will provide finance support during the negotiations with these alliance partners, as well as the management of the financial aspects of each deal after completion. This presents an exciting opportunity if you are looking to broaden your development horizons in an area of strategic importance to the business, and will provide you with direct exposure to senior management across the organisation. You will be the Lead Finance Business Partner for CSL finance with the Global head of enterprise alliance management. This is a hybrid role, which offers a combination of an onsite and remote work schedule. #LI-hybrid
Your key Key Relationships will include:
1. Executive Director, Head of Alliance Management (+Alliance Management Team)
2. VP, Global Head of Licensing
3. VP, Global Head of Business Development
4. VP, Head of Controlling & Reporting, and tax (and team)
5. Senior Director, Finance Business Partner Late-Stage Development
6. Senior Director, Finance business planning and evaluation (and team)
7. Heads of finance for each of CSL’s operating segments (CSL Behring, CSL Seqirus and CSL Vifor)
The Role:
Build strong relationships with the R&D Leadership Team (+ their Extended Leadership Teams), Business Development, Alliance Management, and external finance partners.
Lead the R&D Finance Business Partnering requirements, in support of Corporate Finance and other CSL finance teams, for CSL Alliance assets in the R&D portfolio and ensure complete delivery of CSL’s financial responsibilities.
Lead CSL’s Quarterly Post Deal Management governance process, working closely with Portfolio Finance and TA Development Finance Business Partners to ensure completeness and accuracy of management information.
Implement and maintain processes and tools to track CSL’s financial obligations for all Agreements and licensing obligations; maintaining a database that captures all current rights/obligations, providing support for cashflow budgeting and reporting to the CSL GLG.
Work with Alliance Management and other Senior Leadership to ensure successful relationships and financial management of CSL’s obligations for alliances/collaborations with current and future external partners, including:
8. Attend meetings with partners and provide support with financial analysis during negotiations and review contracts before deal completion.
9. Collaborate with external partner finance teams in line with CSL’s contractual commitments to ensure accurate flow of information to support a positive working relationship.
10. Effective establishment of alliance financial governance consistent with agreement intent and ensuring financial processes are in place to facilitate timely, joint decision-making.
11. Support development and implementation of cross-functional processes and initiatives to support continued improvement of CSL’s Alliance Management and Finance capabilities.
12. Work closely with Group Finance, R&D Leadership, Investor Relations, partners, and other stakeholders to manage appropriate financial obligations and disclosures.
13. Work closely with Business Planning and Evaluation in performing financial modelling of deals, impairment analyses and post investment reviews.
Other core activities will include:
14. Provide insight to support quarterly forecast update and annual planning cycles to drive deeper understanding of Alliance dynamics, financial implications, and future sensitivities.
15. Lead the financial planning and reporting requirements for CSL Alliances, working in close collaboration with business leadership.
16. Drive insights during the deal process with the alliance management, BD, and related finance teams.
17. Keep heads of finance of each business aware of developments and outcomes that will have an impact on their organization.
18. Proactively collaborate with Corporate Finance in the management of financial obligations, accounting and reporting for Alliances.
19. Provide financial guidance and insights to help drive short- and long-term portfolio goals.
20. Champion the Business Partnering mind-set; Serve as Primary Financial Advisor to Alliance Management and support strategic decision-making.
21. Support Investor Relations / Analyst half year and full-year finance reporting requirements for Alliances, providing appropriate insight into progress and performance.
22. Provide Leaders with finance guidance and decision-making support (including regular business reviews) for strategic plans, major investment decisions, business plans and targets informed through analysis of key drivers of business and sensitivities, business cases and trends.
23. Participate in developing best practice approaches to support the ongoing development of Finance capability in support of the Finance Strategy and Finance Vision
24. Support the development of complex business cases and other complex business analysis and modelling to provide additional guidance and insights to senior business leaders
Your Skills and Experience:
25. Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline; MBA or other advanced degree in Accounting Qualification preferred. Professional certification (CA/CPA/CMA) desirable.
26. 10+ years' experience in Finance roles, with extensive experience from areas such as, Finance business partnering, budgeting, and forecasting, analysis, alliance finance, portfolio finance in a Pharmaceutical R&D environment or similar industry.
27. Leadership of teams. Own team (currently 2 reports) as well as the ability to positively influence other teams.
28. Experience in financial modelling, M&A finance, and Deal support. Leadership in BD negotiations is advantageous.
29. Sound leadership and interpersonal skills, sound judgment, ability to influence, ability to execute globally integrated processes, strong analytical thinking, ability to lead, develop, and motivate others.
30. Timely decision making and priority setting, organizational agility, ability to work cross-functionally and across all levels.
31. The position also requires the ability to build and maintain strong relationships and collaborate effectively with multiple levels and cross functionally.
