Job Description: Professional Development Tutor at Pears Cumbria School of Medicine
Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria have partnered to establish the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM), located at the University of Cumbria, Carlisle Fusehill Street campus.
The role of the Professional Development Tutor (PDT) involves managing a tutorial group of approximately ten medical students. The PDT will support students in achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals during medical school and their subsequent careers.
The PDTs will facilitate students' professional development within the Cumbria healthcare community, encouraging them to practice locally if they choose. They will also promote early engagement with local healthcare providers to enhance career readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Promote the development of your tutorial group through learner-centred conversations, employing adult learning principles and coaching approaches.
2. Monitor students' academic and clinical progress, supporting their improvement and celebrating successes.
3. Assist students in developing and maintaining professional collaborations within the local healthcare community, preparing them for practice in the NHS.
4. Proactively support student wellbeing by discussing daily issues and referring to appropriate support services for complex needs.
Qualifications and Experience:
* A primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent), full GMC registration, and membership of the relevant Royal College.
* Clinically active, working as a Consultant, General Practitioner, or SAS doctor in Cumbria.
* Experience in coaching, mentoring, or supporting junior colleagues' development.
* An open, personable disposition with strong rapport-building skills.
* Ability to exemplify professional values and behaviors expected of medical professionals.
