1. As an IRO, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of care and safeguarding for children and young people in the care system. Your expertise will be instrumental in reviewing and overseeing care plans, ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard, and that their needs are met effectively and promptly.
2. Review and Monitor Care Plans: Chair regular reviews of care plans for children and young people in care, ensuring that plans are effective and meet the needs of the individual.
3. Advocate for Children and Young People: Ensure that the views, wishes, and feelings of children and young people are represented and considered in all decision-making processes.
4. Safeguarding: Monitor the implementation of care plans to ensure the safety and welfare of children and young people, taking prompt action where necessary to address any issues or concerns.
5. Inter-agency Collaboration: Work collaboratively with social workers, foster carers, residential staff, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to the care and support of children and young people.
6. Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of practice and contribute to the continuous improvement of services through regular auditing and feedback.
Essential Requirements:
Qualifications: A relevant social work qualification (e.g., DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent) and registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
Experience: Significant post-qualification experience in children's social care, with a strong understanding of the legal and policy framework for looked after children in Scotland.
Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with children, young people, and professionals effectively. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Commitment: A passionate commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable Attributes:
Experience in an IRO role or similar position.
Knowledge of the latest developments and best practices in child protection and care planning.
Proven ability to manage complex cases and make sound, evidence-based decisions.
