Purpose of the Role: Thales UK have an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to undertake a 12 month fixed term internship within our Systems Engineering Team based in Cheadle, Manchester. This role will be working within Defence Mission Systems (DMS), specifically our Maritime Mission Systems (MMS) business unit; a team dedicated to working on some of the next generation, SONAR and cutting edge Maritime Autonomous & Remote Systems. You will assist and support our experienced IVVQ engineers to deliver the subsystem IVVQ strategies and associated acceptance & test plans to ensure successful overall system-level IVVQ. You will operate across the subsystem teams and work closely with the engineering leads, including industrial partners external to Thales. There will also be opportunities supporting activities offsite within the UK. For this role you MUST be able to obtain full Security Clearances (SC). The role may involve the opportunity to travel to our sister-sites in the UK and France and suppliers facilities. Key Responsibilities and Tasks: Working on real projects, taking on genuine responsibilities and gaining unique experiences will form the core of your development. The list below is not exhaustive nor will individuals be expected to be able to undertake all of them. Build understanding of Engineering development lifecycle and lifecycle products. Support the writing and execution of Test Specifications Contribute to the development of Test Plans and Test Strategy Documents Execute Test Specifications (according to test plan and project schedule) Record results of Test Execution. Raise/investigate/verify defect reports. Support Engineering Requirement Management using IT Applications and Tools. Assists in the preparation of system & subsystem requirement specifications, interface requirements and test requirement documents by analysing, decomposing, modelling and refining customer requirements Accurately reports work progress and estimates to complete against work tasks assigned by line manager Assists in the investigation of problems in the Test Facility or field environment. Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of tools relevant to the Systems Engineering function. Key performance Indicators against Responsibilities and Tasks (professional only): Time - Ensure tasks are completed efficiently within agreed timescales as determined by the IVVQ Manager. Reporting - Produce a weekly summary report of activities undertaken, covering issues, resolutions and progress. Quality - All activities are documented before a task is completed and where appropriate Problem Reports are raised and significant issues reported to the Line manager. Safety - Ensure you have read and understand the specific Risk Assessments available within each working environment. Skills: Essential You will be studying for a degree in a relevant engineering discipline or STEM Subject I.E. electronic engineering, computer science, software, systems engineering, physics etc. A passion for Engineering, Hardware or Software and in particular the right hand of the Systems Engineering Model, the Integration, Validation, Verification & Qualification (IVVQ) process. A desire to learn about the Systems Engineering Lifecycle An ability to understand complex systems A methodical and structured approach to problem investigation Strong written and verbal communication skills An ability to work as a key member of the team A desire to take responsibility for your professional development Knowledge of Electrical /Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering and/or knowledge of Electro-Mechanical Systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for producing, modifying or reviewing technical documents, reports, plans and spread sheets. Basic planning Desirable: Knowledge of Autonomous and/or remotely operated platforms/systems Knowledge of Command Control, Communications and Computer Information systems (C4IS). Basic knowledge of SONAR. Experience of working to (or writing) technical requirements/documents Knowledge of Software engineering Knowledge of RF communications Knowledge of IT networking Knowledge of marine platforms Values & Behaviours: Focus on Customers.
