We are expanding our Waste and Resources’ expert consultancy team and are seeking a Technical Consultant with a scientific or engineering background to join the team. This is a permanent position open to full-time (37 hours pw) applicants and is based in our Swindon office. For the right candidate the position would build on your academic and/or practical experience to deliver technical consultancy projects within the WRc ‘waste doctors’ team. The waste doctors work on behalf of private and public sector clients to address a wide range of scientific and technical challenges in the field of solid waste management and recycling. As one of the UK's leading experts on waste testing and classification, we work with regulators and industry on identifying and characterising challenging waste streams. We go above and beyond for our clients in scoping and delivering projects, not only providing them with data, but also supporting them in interpreting results, communicating consequences and investigating opportunities and solutions for improved value recovery. Key Responsibilities: Carry out and lead research and development in the areas of waste testing and classification, material recycling, equipment evaluation and a range of technical challenges faced by industry. Liaise with specialist analytical laboratories and universities about testing programmes, analytical methods and interpretation and limitations of data. Engage with clients to understand their needs, identify opportunities and create costed proposals to meet their requirements Produce well-written reports and presentations to convey technical information to a range of audiences Person Specification: A degree in a STEM discipline, preferably chemical or environmental as the role will require understanding laboratory procedures, materials and industrial processes. Relevant experience, such as working in an environmental laboratory, or as a process chemist, process engineer or environmental manager in an environmental consultancy or industry. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal, including social media) to engage with clients, laboratories and suppliers. Able to define problems, collect and interpret data with excellent IT skills, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations in a consultancy report. Able to work flexibly on several projects at the same time, to accommodate changes in deadlines or priorities. Willingness to take ownership of issues and seek team participation to achieve best solutions. Salary and Benefits Salary: between £35,000 - £48,000 with some flexibility depending on experience.
