Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Qualified Social Worker to join our Referral & Assessment (R&A) team. This role involves conducting assessments, safeguarding children at risk, and ensuring timely interventions to support families. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of child protection legislation and best practices, as well as the ability to manage complex caseloads effectively. Key Responsibilities: 1. Referral & Assessment: Conduct initial and comprehensive assessments of children and families in response to referrals from various sources (e.g., schools, police, healthcare providers). Undertake Section 17 (Child in Need) and Section 47 (Child Protection) assessments in line with the Children Act 1989. Evaluate risks and needs to determine the most appropriate level of intervention, ensuring that children's welfare is always prioritized. Work in partnership with families, professionals, and other agencies to gather relevant information for assessments. 2. Case Management & Safeguarding: Develop, implement, and review child protection and child in need plans to safeguard children at risk. Participate in strategy meetings, child protection conferences, and core group meetings, providing professional input and recommendations. Ensure timely and effective intervention to prevent escalation of risk. Work closely with other social work teams, including Looked After Children (LAC) and Children in Need (CIN), to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of care. 3. Multi-Agency Working & Court Work: Collaborate with health professionals, education services, law enforcement, and other agencies to provide holistic support for children and families. Prepare high-quality reports and court statements, giving evidence in court proceedings when necessary. Ensure all work complies with statutory regulations, policies, and procedures. 4. Record-Keeping & Compliance: Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and detailed case records in line with local authority and legal requirements. Ensure all assessments and interventions adhere to legislation, national frameworks, and local safeguarding protocols. 5. Professional Development & Supervision: Participate in regular supervision to reflect on casework and practice. Stay updated with legislative changes, policies, and best practices in child protection and social work. Engage in training and continuous professional development opportunities. Essential Qualifications & Experience: ✅ Degree in Social Work (BA, MA, or equivalent). ✅ Registration with Social Work England (SWE) or equivalent regulatory body. ✅ Proven experience in Referral & Assessment, Child Protection, and Safeguarding. ✅ Strong understanding of the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and related legislation. ✅ Experience in conducting Section 17 and Section 47 assessments. ✅ Excellent report-writing and analytical skills. ✅ Ability to work under pressure and manage complex caseloads. ✅ Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
