Job Title: Tool Design Engineer Salary: £42,000 - £63,000 Benefits: To be discussed at interview Job Type: Permanent, Hybrid (3 Days at Home) Location: West Drayton Job Start date: ASAP Shift Pattern: 7am – 3:30pm Core Hours We’re supporting our client, a leading global manufacturer based in West Drayton, who are looking for a Tool Design Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Tool Design Engineer will have strong experience in tool design, as well as have a time served apprenticeship in mould and/or press tool design or toolmaking. Position Overview: As a Tool Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for collaborating with tooling and manufacturing engineers and CNC machinists to create efficient solutions that meet the needs of the organisation. Responsibilities for Tool Design Engineer: Create detailed design and mould inserts and core pins, jigs and fixtures using CAD. Design and detail mould tool inserts and core pins, jigs and fixtures. Design and detail electrodes for spark erosion. Create (WORP) works order requirement plan. Prepare all documentation for designs and modifications. Manage all projects from concept through to completion ensuring all design requirements are met Manage and check all work is complete and correct. Plan workload to achieve agreed completion dates. To update and maintain existing tool designs. About You: Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) and a strong understanding of mechanical principles. Material Knowledge: Familiarity with different materials (metals, plastics, composites) used in tool manufacturing and their properties. Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, welding, and assembly. Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to develop innovative solutions. Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Proficient in the use of Solidworks and Mould flow design package. A strong understanding of tool making principles Knowledge of different materials (metals, plastics, composites) used in tool manufacturing and their properties. Workable knowledge of CNC and manual machining techniques. Workable knowledge of heat treatment processes and their application. Workable knowledge of Material Surface treatments and their application. Understanding preventive maintenance schedules, common tool failures, and repair techniques. Familiarity with CNC machining, stamping, injection moulding, and other manufacturing processes relevant to tooling. Understanding of COSH regulations, workplace safety standards, and environmental regulations related to tooling and manufacturing. Time served apprenticeship in mould and/or press tool design or tool making. Strong experience in tool design. Strong knowledge of tool design, fabrication, and maintenance processes. Certified advanced user of Solidworks CAD software, and Mould Flow / other design tools.
