Job summary We have an exciting opportunity within the Orthopaedic Physiotherapy team at the Royal Victoria Infirmary for a Physiotherapy Associate Practitioner to join the team on a 15 month fixed term position. The role involves providing rehabilitation to patients involved in a research study (called INITIATE) following a fractured neck of femur. The study is looking at the effects of providing increased mobility in hospital after a hip fracture and the aim is to find out if more ward-based mobilisation activity after hip fracture surgery allows people to get home more quickly and allow them to stay living in their own home longer. NO AGENCIES PLEASE Main duties of the job The role will involve working alongside a qualified Physiotherapist, who is also part of the research trial, to provide the extra physio input in addition to the care provided by the ward team. It will primarily be based on the orthopaedic ward, however it will also be necessary to follow patients through their hospital stay onto the orthogeriatric rehabilitation ward at the Freeman. The aim is to provide patients who are enrolled in the trial at least 4 hours of rehabilitation per week, therefore an enthusiasm for the role and providing rehabilitation to older patients is essential. You will have the opportunity to offer a person-centred approach, whilst promoting patient's independence and well-being. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside the research team at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, whilst being part of a multicentre research trial, that will influence the care of future hip fracture patients.
