Please note, this post is permanent and full-time at 37 hours per week. The School of Natural Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a Technician Assistant to join the team supporting their busy research laboratories. Based mainly in the Joseph Banks Laboratories, you will help with the day to day activities where you will be responsible for a wide variety of activities including: receiving and distributing deliveries, monitoring and maintaining stock items in the stores and managing the safe organisation of the chemical storerooms. You will deal with daily maintenance, cleaning and waste management in support of chemistry, microbiology and molecular laboratory items and areas, as well as monitoring and maintaining essential laboratory equipment. You will work with the existing technical team, but will also have opportunities to work independently, and you will be encouraged to show initiative and contribute to improving lab processes. The post will involve working with or near potentially hazardous chemicals and biological material as well as sensitive equipment, and a high level of safety awareness of your work environment will be essential. The School of Natural Sciences was formed in 2024 following a convergence of the previous School of Life and Environmental Sciences and the School of Chemistry. The School has wide ranging research areas in a busy and dynamic laboratory environment supporting cutting edge research in cancer, diabetes, nanotechnology and battery science. The labs also host undergraduate and postgraduate students spending time in the laboratories for their independent project work. Laboratory members highly value and support the technical team within a positive environment, and the University and technical managers subscribe to the Technicians Commitment, offering the potential for valuable development opportunities to all technical staff. You will need to have a minimum HNC level qualification or equivalent experience, but we would also be very interested in people with a BSc qualification in a relevant discipline, or if you have experience with chemicals in a work environment. The University of Lincoln offers exciting career opportunities with the chance to grow and develop to reach your full potential.
