An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacy Assistant to join our developing Medicine Optimisation team. We provide high-quality support to our patients and are looking for a motivated, flexible and forward-thinking Pharmacy assistant. The successful applicant will join our friendly team of assistants, technicians, and pharmacists to work primarily with our surgical services. As part of an integrated role, the post holder will work flexibly to support ward-based pharmacy medicine optimisation services, dispensary support, and ward services.
This post will be primarily based at St Luke's Hospital but will be required to work at BRI as needed.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a link between ward colleagues and pharmacy with the principal aim of improving patient flow and patient experience. The role will include taking responsibility for the ward stock provided by pharmacy, including stock levels and expiry date checking. It also includes working alongside the ward pharmacist to improve patient flow by ensuring that discharge medication is ordered in advance and discussing with families which medications they already have at home.

Person Specification
Experience
* Significant experience of dispensing
* Experience of working in a health or social care setting
* Knowledge and understanding of the differing needs of patients with a range of clinical conditions
Skills
* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
* Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
* Ability to work effectively under pressure
* Good team working skills
* Demonstrable attention to detail
Knowledge
* Knowledge of Medicines Management
* Knowledge and understanding of Pharmaceutical technical procedures specific to the area of work
Qualifications
* Good basic general education
* NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services* (including units 5 'Assemble Prescribed Items' and unit 15 'Undertake an in-process accuracy check of assembled prescribed items prior to the final accuracy check') or equivalent Grandparent Clauses *or in the process of working towards this qualification. (*Applicants will only be shortlisted where they are within 3 months of completing their course, and the offer of employment will be subject to successfully gaining the qualification prior to employment.)
