Job Description:
The Role
The Geotechnics Lab Technician will play a critical role in supporting the teaching, research, and consultancy activities within the Geography and Geotechnics labs. This hands-on position involves coordinating laboratory operations, maintaining and calibrating specialist equipment, and ensuring that all practical activities are conducted to the highest standards.
You will provide technical expertise to students and staff, fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. The role requires balancing multiple priorities, including supervising student sessions, supporting research projects, and contributing to the smooth running of the labs. You will be instrumental in introducing innovative practices to enhance lab activities and maintaining the labs’ state-of-the-art facilities to deliver technical excellence.
The Person
The ideal candidate will be a proactive and technically skilled individual with experience in laboratory operations, preferably within a Geotechnics or related discipline. You will have a strong understanding of health and safety requirements and a proven ability to maintain and calibrate specialist equipment to ensure seamless operation.
You will possess excellent organisational and communication skills, enabling you to effectively supervise multiple student groups and collaborate with staff from diverse backgrounds. A commitment to innovation, problem-solving, and delivering exceptional service is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
